    Hot Dogs, Frankfurters, Weiners....

For about 25 years I avoided all hot dogs like the plague. I called them "guided missiles" as I did not know what was in them.

But something changed the last trip back to the states when I had good ones again. It got me to thinking. The first really good hot dogs I had were at Tivoli Gardens in Copenhagen.

Then we have the street dog of New York.
    Coney dog from Nathans,

    Sabretts the king of carts.

    Milwaukee bratwurst

And now the sloppy drippy thing I started this thread about. The Classic chilli cheese dog!

Yup I am doing chilli cheese dogs tomorrow night.

Please post up your favorite dogs from around the world. Cheers.

Love a good dog, as long as its a proper sausage, not those reconstituted meat paste things.
    Coney dog looks the bomb.
Similar ones to be had from the Vic market in Melbourne.

Copenhagen? Cucumber slices on a dog..phhht.

Agreed, they also do it with grilled onions, but I dont have the photos and am sourcing them on the cheap. Post up some ozzie ones.
That red Danish dog is the bomb mate. The first one I ever had crunch crackle and then the taste.... I was about 7 or 8

    These are Vic market dogs.
The bread is more important than other places.

I see that Joey Chesnut won the Nathans July 4th hot dog eating competition in NYC last week for the 7th year sin succession. I believe he ate 69 hot dogs in 10 minutes.

    Rather him than me.

The American play on traditional sausages is quite disgusting...

There is nothing worse than their versions of a "hot dog" - in any such fashion.

    Let's see.......

I could say "What? You lay your hotdogs on the sidewalk to take pictures? That's lame! No self respecting person on the planet would put cucumbers on a hot dog either!"

Or I could say "Thanks AO. That give me some ideas & reminds me of one I haven't had in a long time".

I choose to say the latter.
    =====================

One thing I can say definitively.

I bought some Johnsonville "Polska Kielbasa" from Villa & they were the most bland things I've ever tasted.

On the other hand, about every 12-18 months I get a craving for an Oscar Meyer dog. I eat 3 or 4 in one sitting & don't want to see another dog for a year or better (same as Tequila shots....WHY did I do that to myself?).

Here's an interesting way to eat a dog...........

Just boil or nuke some Oscar Meyer dogs in some water = heat them up a bit.

Get some small Danita brand tortilla bread at Top's/Foodland/Villa.

Lay one on a plate & cover it with a paper towel. Wet your hand and sprinkle water on it & nuke it for maybe 15-20 seconds.

Slap said dog on the warm, moist tortilla bread & add some kind of Mexican salsa. Roll it up like a burrito or taco.

They are great just like that, but I'm sure you could add cheese or cheese sauce & onions & sauerkraut & hot mustard or whatever to suit your own taste.

    =================
They 7-11 hotdogs here in LOS are sometimes decent, depending on your mood.

I was out about 6 months ago, doing a demo test-drive of a military truck.

Started in Korat, went to Loei, then Mae Sot then Kanchanaburi, then Korat.

It took us a week. As we did some sight-seeing along the way. Now, while I LOVE eating spicy food, my stomach doesn't love me back.

20 people in 2 vans plus the Army tuck, plus a couple other trucks = we couldn't pull over every time I had the squirts.

I lived on 7-11 hot dogs that week!
