Wow, I have never used a rice cooker for egg fried rice or pilau/pilaff. I would love to hear your technique. Does it work well?

My wife cooks the rice. If I even tried to cook rice, she'd probably cut me.

Sounds good, what sort of rice do you use for this? Something particular or just a standard long grain?

The Mrs has brown rice on the stove right now, for whatever reasons she cooks her white rice in the rice-cooker but always does her brown rice in a pot on the stove. She uses Martha Stewart's method, comes out perfectly every time.

My method is the same but Use 2 cups water per cup of rice and I like to add a teaspoon of salt. Sometimes turmeric.
    Push button.

What a fine idea!!!!! Thanks for your inspiration, I'm going to buy a sewing machine today!

Thanks, Chef Douche! Instead of spending countless hours looking at the trillions of youtube videos detailing the intricate steps in making rice, I'll devote myself to watching dressmaking vids!

Never measure. Go with the as much water above the level of the rice as the depth of the rice.

What the wife does is a knuckle length of water above the top of the rice.

Great technique as this will often have a direct correlation to size of pan used (as long as you are cooking less than about 10 portions). Once you get into more than that you run the risk of your water ratio being off. Gold star.

usually "wash" the rice a couple of times, put finger on top of rice and water is about right when two thirds of the way to the first finger joint.

I don't like his way of washing all the starch out. I WANT my rice to be a little sticky.

^ Agreed, I like jasmine rice to be sticky enough to put in a bowl and turn upside down onto plate. Has to be one year old rice according to Mrs Troy.

Oh really? Why is that? Is it to develop the flavour of the rice or just to make sure that it is fully dried before cooking?
