Will I use this word: no

    Why: I don't know.
I like this word. It reminds me of the monty python scene when the soldier is in hospital with his legs blown off, and when his commanding officer asks him how he's coping, he very happily replies "Smashing sir, it's just a scratch, sir. I'm good as gold, i can't wait to get back out to the front!" or something to the likes...

    Nice thread Milky.

    Haplology

Haplology is defined as the elimination of a syllable when two consecutive identical or similar syllables occur. The phenomenon was identified by American philologistMaurice Bloomfield in the 20th century.[1]

I can see this one being used by the teflers out there "It's not libry, it's library, Noi. I don't care what your friend kingwilly told you. He's such a haplologist that guy"

    Speaking in Ruddles

    Article from:
    Editorial
    April 02, 2008 12:00am

PRIME Minister Kevin Rudd was addressing the Brookings Institution in the US when he made a difficult to understand observation
In one remarkable passage in his speech Rudd noted: "Therefore, there is, in my argument, on the face of it, a natural complementarity between these two philosophical approaches and a complementarity that could be developed further in the direction of some form of conceptual synthesis."

Mr Rudd was speaking of China's place in the world order and, no, his speech was not translated from the Mandarin.

Scientists at Brookings, a Washington think tank, might have, like us, turned to the Macquarie Dictionary for enlightenment. They may have been disappointed.

Because the Macquarie says complementarity is ". . . a concept which acknowledges that different pieces of evidence relating to atomic systems, obtained under different conditions, cannot necessarily be understood by a single model, thus the concept of complementarity is necessary in order to accept the wave and particle models of an electron".

Got that? This is the PM speaking in Ruddles. We may have to get used to it.

    oleaginous

adjective: unpleasantly and excessively suave or ingratiating in manner or speech (Example: "Oleaginous hypocrisy")

I read it somewhere describing an American commentator Jim Nantz on the Masters golf. Summed him up perfectly, as he makes me squirm.

Also means an unusual amount of oil or grease.

I hope Timba ain't like that
