I'm no master but I rarely meet people who know how to play it, gutted

I had a friend over here last year for the Christmas holiday who loved to play. I had a pretty crummy board but it was OK.

I was expecting him back so invested in a really nice board. Needless to say he couldn't make it this year and I never lose at 1 man backgammon
I would post pictures but life's too short.

I love the game, not played it for 20 years now.

    Great for gambling as well.

I was talking about the game the other day to my eldest, your thread has reminded me to buy a board.

    Backgammon's a piece of piss.
Can get a little tricky depending on which finishing rules you're using.
A bit like calling the pocket with pool.

I used to play as a young computer operator during quiet times on afternoon and night shift back around 1980...

Coincidently, I bought a board for me and ms Tiz to play over the Xmas break.

She had never played before and quite liked it for a while. But then she spat the dummy when she thought she had a game won until I landed on her open piece and I had my home quarter totally blocked.

    We haven't played again since...

They did it first in America and its what made the game famous.
    Introducing the doubling die.

Used to be pretty good at it but like some, haven't played it for a while.

jammy bastard. all one can hope for is you leaving one open on yours when she tries to get back on and hopefully with a double 4 so she can hit 1 or 2 others left open.
And then using the doubling die to clean up.
As you cry into your dice cup.

Ok, I understand. No need to google. Thanks.
Yeah a specific ending could make it more interesting.

It's a pretty simple game, I used to play a lot, bores the fuck out of me now.

Chess is much more interesting. I reckon hardly anyone plays chess nowadays.

Can't remember if it was Izmir, Istanbul or Antalya where I picked up my board. Good for both backgammon and acey deucey.

I used to play every morning over breakfast. A sth African mate showed me a version where you had to throw to get on to the board. Only played that a few times but made an interesting twist. Must get the kids into it.

Should have posted this 3 years ago when I was down the road. I was always looking for someone for a game. A nice way to while away an afternoon with a few beers around the lake,

I said to that Moby when he had his bar to fuck off all the connect 4, and get some backgammon and chess boards. He was about to do it as well, but then his health took a beating and sold up.

I would have been quite happy in there supping a few cold ones, breeze off the lake, playing backgammon of an afternoon.
