First record album - first live concert

I am sorry if this has been posted before. Please be gentle.

SBS Television in Australia has, or at least had a programme where two guests and four members from the audience answer general knowledge questions on music.

At the start of this show all the members on the panel are asked to name the first album they purchased, and the first concert they attended.

While I have to admit to buying the album Summer Holiday with Cliff Richards, the first concert I ever went to was a double bill, an aging Roy Orbison and The Beach Boys.

Incidentally, although it really wasn't that bad, it was also the last concert I ever attended.

Summer Holiday - saw the movie - terrible.
Roy O - saw him live - brilliant.
Beach Boys - would have loved to see them.

Saw Beach Boys in Europe - a great gig and I was pleased that I'd finally got to see them.
Saw Summer Holiday - it was OK for that era and had some good songs. Seen Cliff Richard a gaggle of times - great performer.
Only seen Roy O on vid - great performer, too.
I've learned that pleasing everyone is impossible, but pissing everyone off is a piece of cake.

First record album - first live concert

AC/DC and the Back in Black tour must have been extraordinary.

According to wikipedia they played 141 concerts in 253 days. and

Although only placed sixth on the list in the US, the album Back in Black is now the second best-selling album of all time. It is second only behind Michael Jackson's Thriller.

Are there any members who saw Jimmy Hendrix at Woodstock?

First record: Fresh Cream - played it in the barracks to annoy the Southern boys.

First concert: Woodstock with my six month-old nephew who started crying as soon as Richie Havens came on; didn't see him or my sister until the concert was over. Seem to remember JH playing as we were leaving. My nephew got back at me by buying INXS front row seats when he was a teenager.

My first record was Crimson and Clover by Tommy James and the Shondells. I still love the song, but the rest of the LP sucked.
My first live concert was Edgar Winters, which was terrible. My second concert was Blood, Sweat and Tears, which was pretty bad too. My first good concert was Jefferson Starship when they were not an official group yet and were doing a sci-fi rock opera. It was really Jefferson Airplane with members of a bunch of other Bay area bands. That was probably my best concert ever, but the Cure and the Smiths (when they first came out) were pretty close.

I met Little River Band when they were not famous in American yet. They stayed at the hotel I worked at in Miami and offered me free tickets to their concert there. I turned them down.

Bought one of those 4 for a few bucks record club deals.
Thick as a Brick - Jethro Tull
    Short Stories - Harry Chapin
Every Picture Tells a Story - Rod Stewart
and Just Another Band From L.A. - Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention.

First live was a Sydney radio station promo of Russel Morris doing The Real Thing under the Sydney Harbour Bridge timing the crescendo bit with a train passing over the bridge.
Of course the the train was late so he had to stretch it out a bit.

We could turn this into a "guess my age" contest, using the albums and concerts as clues.

First album: AC/DC (accadacca) 'Dirty deeds done dirt cheap'.

First concert: Billy Joel at (I think) Festival Hall in Melbourne Australia.

First album: Band On The Run - Wings

First Concert: Black Sabbath, Hammersmith Odeon, Famous because it was Ozzy's last ever gig in Britain for many many years. Van Halen were meant to be supporting, but it was a cancelled show from the tour rescheduled a week or so after the tour finished and Van Halen had left to return to the US. As a result, the first band I saw live was..... Quartz.

That started a run that had me over 1000 gigs by the age of 23, I saw over 500 in a two year span after moving to London.

Saw my favourite band 138 times, though I got to work for them on two tours so I was paid to see about 60 of those.

Being a tight bugger I was into taping. I had a reel to reel and then moved onto cassettes. First used to tape top of the pops then borrowed albums.
Later on I would buy albums as presents but I always got the first play copied.

Saw loads of live music in and around the pubs but the first gig I paid to see was Queen at Lancaster Uni.

    Would have been around 1972
