Walk in the Park

We all have our methods for trying to remain healthy. Personally, Although I swim almost every day, I do a variety of other activities (walking, golfing, tennis, bad-mitten, gardening, chasing the Mrs around the house, etc) depending on my preference, temperament and mood to remain active.

Yesterday I took a walk. I want to say that it was about 6 kilo in distance. I live in Ban Chang, Rayong province not far from the beach and not farm from the Eastern Star Golf course/ resort and housing area and the walk around the Eastern Star grounds is low volume traffic, generally safe, and has a view of the golf course and fields and houses so that is where I decided to walk. HEre are a few photos taken during the walk, not much commentary so just enjoy the pictures.

I left the house and started walking and immediately saw this palm tree with ripe fruit on it. worthy of a picture I thought.




didn’t get another 200 meters down the sub-soi from the 1st picture taking opportunity before I saw my Aussi neighbor working in the garden so I stopped and chatted with him for about 15 min. Finally after chatting and getting down another 200 meters down the sub-soi I came to the soi that leads down to the beach.




after a short distance on the left, there was a typical Thai style country house. The collect coconut husks from the grounds and split them to be used for orchid holders and others they shred to be used as top cover and planting.




looking back over my left shoulder, across the tapioca farm field and between the coconut trees, I can see the back side of my house.




down a little further was the West entrance to Eastern Star.







Walking into Eastern Star the guards gave me you a big salute and waved me thru. Nice grounds within Eastern Star.




There are houses at various places around the Eastern Star Golf Course grounds as well as several housing developments. Here is the first one I passed on the walk. Vintage I.




and Vintage II was the 2nd development I passed on this walk.



Here is a nice lake with some duck and geese.




and some bamboo growing.




for you golfers out there, no pictures of the golf course or caddies as at this point my camera battery died so there are no more pictures until I take the walk again which won’t be until the blisters on the bottom of my feet heal.

I like a good walk myself. Easy in the U.K. where you walk to keep warm. Out here, even on the bike its sometimes just too hot. I'm so out of shape now even a walk around the Mall means I need to get my feet up with a coffee when we get home.

Just had another look at those pics because I felt something was missing. The plastic bags !! Where are all the discarded plastic bags ?

If you take a left at the end of the road you were on inside Eastern Star, up towards the clubhouse, there is a huge house with tennis courts owned by some ex Deputy Prime Minister, there are some nice houses around the course, used to play there a lot.

Nice pics Sea Traveler. It is nice to see someone enjoy their surroundings in Thailand and then post them so others can enjoy. Thailand is a very picturesque country and I think many of us lose track of that from time to time.

actually, when going to the beach, it is usually on the bicycle or motorcycle. keep on walking, good for your health...

correct, lots of huge houses on the course and as far as I know, former PM does still have that house. not sure how frequently he is actually in residence though. there are public tennis courts as well and it is a small fee to play...

You giving more credit than I deserve there AS. More like i know how to use the edit crop feature. 555. But in reality, there were zero plastic bags on this area that I walked that had any plastic bags. unusual i know but did not see any.

It reminds me of the time I enquired and was very tempted to purchase a plot of land overlooking the 13th tee beside a lake at Eastern Star GC in 2004/05 when i was playing there quite regularly

I like the area but never regretted not buying as i prefer not to tie myself to one club.

Thanks Mr on pictures complement. I also contemplated purchase a lot and building a house in the Eastern Star Vintage I area back in 2003 time frame but there were restrictions that did not particularly fit my situation so opted to purchase elsewhere. I don't think purchasing a house in Eastern Star restricted an individuals play elsewhere. I understand your concern though if one had a membership to play golf and then did not take advantage of it.

I'll post some pictures of the course next time I walk around the grounds.

The blisters on the bottom of my feet from the Eastern Star walk the other day are still making my feet a little tender so in order to fulfill what I consider my obligation to the honorable TD Members who are following this picture thread, I decided to take my peddle bicycle out for a spin to capture some pictures of the golf course and the beach.

if you look hard enough you can see the flag on the green that sits below the mound.




not sure what fare-way this is but the sprinklers were on and the sand trap was rather large.




and they look like rose bushes there in the foreground.




onward to the beach. which beach you ask........




looking West along Phala Beach you can see Samaesarn Peninsula in the background.




and some fishing boats.






and here is the beach in the background. It was Monday and the locals left a lot of trash on the beach but i did notice that as usual, the local vendors and possibly even some municipal cleaning people had raked and collected and place all the trash into large piles that will be collected on Tuesday. I did not capture any of these trash piles with the camera but the beach was clean and looking good.





ok, wrapping it up, here I am in riding gear on some of the hard beach sand on the beach at the end of the Utapao Airport runway to my back and on the right side of the picture.

close to the beach, very little traffic, affordable, plenty of golf courses, good restaurants, close enough to Pattaya and Bangkok to make visits. yea, not a bad place to call home.

I'm on my bike most days too when it's not raining. It's a 30 km round trip from the house to Don Chedi and my scenery consists of a lot of rice fields. It's a flat run so I make good time. Nothing notable on these back roads but farm machinery and school kids in baht busses but I'll take my camera with next time and bore the shit out of y'all!

By golly you are probably correct rawlins.... let me go and ask the bride.... nope, she says that it looks like and can be called a betel nut but it can not be eaten/chewed. a different kind of betel nut. this type she says is from the palm tree. different than the kind of betel nut that can be chewed. she said she knows because her grandmother used to chew the nut....

right, thank goodness for the lycra riding shorts. no easy access. most of the people I come across while riding ore pleasant.

good deal Boon. yu riding a road bike? mountain bike? local single speed with basket on the front bike? I enjoy taking sub soi's and back some single track dirt roads. I almost always run across some cows on the road. While on Eastern Star the other day when I took those pictures, I had to go off road and ride through an open field that was just recently cut, to get to the course where I wanted to take a picture. There were some bird chirping and acting all crazy so I was thinking that they had a next on the ground. Shit, I looked down and just in front of my front wheel there was a snake crawling through the freshly cut field grass. Fortunately I was still rolling and I want about to stop for any picture taking.
