Prachuap kirikan sounds right up your alley, mainly Thai but a few more Farang getting around these days so a good mix.

Some nice beaches near by and a few tourist attractions as well, friendly people and good cheap accommodation.

There's a 5 story hotel directly opposite the beach with very nice ocean views going for a real good price.

Cant remember the name but you cant miss it.

    Give prachup a crack.

    Just coming from:Hat Narathat

This clean, white beach about 5 km. long is located just north of the town. At the near end is the mouth of the Bang Nara River where the annual Korlae boat races are held. Rows of pines give shade and the beach is a popular local recreation place. Nearby are fishing villages spread along the river and the bay is full of Korlae fishing boats.

    Changwat Narathiwat, most beautiful beach!

I stayed at the Tide Resort at Bang Saen. It was very beautiful at about 3000 baht per night. Nice pool, restaurant and spa. The beach is across the street and there were some nice sea food restaurants nearby.

I found it quiet and enjoyable.

What about Prachuap? I've seen Marmite's got an album of pictures. Looks pretty good. But now I'm in the wrong part of the forum.

    Er, because they've been there.
If my folks where comming over it would be Pranchuap Kiri Khan, i had a great room with a view up the beach for about 450/night, free wifi,, plenty of friendly locals having dinner along the board walk, nice temple to walk to (monkeys), and the beach isn't too bad. if they are up for a scooter ride some realy nice beaches around, i didn't get laid either, sure its around , but not in your face, easy to get to, in fact i even thought about moving there (thinking about it)....

Prachup kiri khan is a cracking little place as long as one aint a monger and likes to be amongst local Thais.

I predict that it wont be long before Farangs start to seriously consider this cracking little sea side town a place to retire in and at least maybe a base. The place will boom and I imagine it wont be long before they fok it up with ho bars and drunken muppets running everywhere but anyway carry on.

If one was able to buy land in ones name I'd seriously consider investing here as the future looks bright.

I met a young dude, fly in fly out rig worker who was renting a house directly on the board walk and had cracking views onto the Gulf of Thailand. He was paying something like 2 pence a week or something extremely stupid and had lived there for years.

I thought, fok me dude, your spot on the money living here.

Anyway, I've got a shite load of top photos and should crank up a thread.

Fok it, I might just go back there in September and bunk up in that six story hotel with the cracking views out over the gulf, foking awesome on a full moon and a few coldies.

    Smile Bang Saen

Perhaps not good on weekends, but 2 years ago I drove down from Chiang Mai to meet a good friend from UK on his return from a business trip to Singapore, OZ (3 cities) and NZ. We only had 1 1/2 days, so closest beach to Suvarnbhumi worked out well. Stayed at Tide Resort. Very few people, almost all khon Thai. Beach not good for waves, but clean.

If your relatives are not familiar with Thailand and will arrive at BKK, I recommend Tide Resort. Outdoor Thai food close by. After recover from jet lag?, then shoot down to Ban Phe or other beaches near Rayong.

I expect reservations made on line would be good deal.

I go to Bang Krud every year with my father (aged 77). It's about 20 kms this side of Bang Saphan. There's about a 20 km stretch of beach road with any number of resorts ranging from say 500 to 4 or 5000 a night. It's a quiet area, no bars to speak of but lots of thai restos and good seafood. The place has grown a bit over the last seven years that I've been visiting, but I still enjoy it for three or four days. Each year I've stayed at the Ratchawadee...great place on the beach, about 2000 a night. Good luck to ya!

I lived in Bang Saen for a few years up until 2006 and whenever we had friends from Aus visiting, we recommended they stay at Bang Saen Villa Hotel (owned by Kamnan Poh's daughter), very good value at around 750 baht per night (in those days), much cheaper than her father's place, The Tides. The best thing about Bangsaen Villa is the restaurant across the road which is built out over the water. Probably the best seafood place in Bangsaen.

If you would like for me to explain where it is I will try,…but I don’t know the name of the place.

I don’t have the address, but these directions might help you.

Start from the monument (or at the 7-11 next to the monument) at Bang Saen Beach and walk away from the beach up (towards the University) Thanon Long Had Bangsaen (runs perpendicular to Thanon Bangsaen Sai 1) about 200 feet from the 7-11. Stay on the south side of the roadway (north side has no shops along it in this area) and look for a place that has a glass storefront with a couple of chairs and a couch in it. That is their reservation area.

If you have walked were you can see the bank directly across the street, you have walked too far.

I have never stayed there,…but I know some of the people that work there.

    Gook luck.

Here’s the monument to start from.

And here’s a map, that might be of some help. I marked (with a red dot) where the rental apartments should be.
