Koh Samet... Go there .. It's nice.

Decided to go to Ko Samet for a few days with SBF (Speccy Brace Face )....

Got a taxi along from Pattaya to Ban Phe near Rayong where all the boats leave from... We hadn't booked anything so was taken to the taxi drivers favourite agent at Ban Phe and was shown their list of options for accommodation...

I decided to avoid the busier beach called Sai Kaew which I was told was full of 'gypsies and backpacker scum' and opted instead for Vong Duan beach... Also booked a speedboat through the agent, thus avoiding contact with the gypsies and backpacker scum on the ferry...

The speedboat looked like this one... And the beach looked like this one...

The accommodation was a beach hut at a place called 'Vong Duan Resort'....

The bed... That's the bed that is...

And the balcony... Very nice hut but a bit pricey at 3500 baht per night...

I was very happy to be relaxing on the island....

So... chilling on the lovely beach and hiring big inflatable turtles is what it's all about in the daytimes...

And the night time is about stuffing yourself with lots of great seafood and booze at one of the beachfront restuarants...

Found a nice spot for breakfast where you could have the water splashing around your feet as you ate during high tide...

We decided to try and be romantic one night and go in search of the sunset.... We were on the wrong side of the island for the sunset but on my travels I had seen a sign that simply said "sunset" with an arrow pointing away from the beach.... Luckily, the island is very thin where we were at so we didn't have to wander through the jungle tracks too far before we found the other side....

Plonked our arses on this rocky bit...

    And were rewarded by this...

Then it was back to the beach hut for some more booze and a game of this.... (I lost 500 baht to SBF playing this)

On the last day we took an organised boat tour around the island which included the chance to catch some tiny fish and do a bit of snorkelling.... At the drop off point there was a stall selling fireworks... I had to buy some...

The problem with fireworks though is that you get all excited before it, spend a lot of money and then it's all over in seconds... (and I was trying to escape that Pattaya feeling... )

I'd recommend a visit for anybody that likes to relax in lovely surroundings.... And for anybody that likes to float around on big inflatable turtles...

That picture shows how content and happy I was to have escaped the madness of Pattaya for a few days... The island can have that effect on you...

Could do without the mug shot, but sums up Samet nicely. Not much to do there and very quiet.

You can keep your topless farang girls....

400 baht?.. before my time, I think...

Some of the backpacker types had spilled over onto Vong Duan - they could be found belting out that wonderful song "Engerlaaand, Engerlaaand..." in one of the beachfront bars...

    Foul specimens.

Speccy Brace Face (SBF) got a pillow with that photo printed on as part of her Christmas present... I don't imagine that she can sleep properly either...

Nice thread and some very good pictures. I have only ever made it to Samui but Samet looks like my kind of place. I have put it on my list of places to visit for next time. Sounds a little pricey but should be ok for a couple of days though. I like to see a good mix of sandy beaches and rocky bits.

^You can get a decent room in the 1000-1500 baht price range, Rawlins is just a yuppie with too much money.

Have already got it tattooed on my arse... wouldn't want to overdo it...

SBF actually made a show of committment to how much she loved me while we were on the speedboat on the way back from the island... She chucked her simcard in the sea...

Feckin' wish I did have too much money... It's nice to treat yourself now and then and I didn't want to be in some cockroach ridden stinky hovel...

(was too expensive though... why do the rooms never end up looking like the one in the photograph that the agent shows you?... was nice enough..)
