    Golden City Hotel Rayong

Just a little plug for this place if you ever find yourself passing through Rayong. I paid 800 baht a night on Agoda and you can't fault it for the money.

Golden City Rayong Hotel – โรงเเรมโกลเด้นซิตี้ระยอง

Rooms are basic but clean with plates and a microwave; there's also a night market opposite as well as a 7. A small pool and gym are also available and you get a buffet breakfast thrown in (Ayam beans and crappy ham if that's your wont).

Although it's aimed at business travellers, there were a few tourists there too who were doing the same as us or had decided to check out the beaches nearby for a couple of nights.

I would use definitely use it again.

Seven took care of the afternoon and the night market did the rest later when we (I) stumbled over for more sustenance.

PS. Chits, sorry you didn't get to add this one to your/my/our "odyssey" thread.

We got a nice 1 bedroom apartment along the beach a few years ago, full length balcony across the living room and bedroom, kitchen, pool. Something like the 15th story with views across the sea to Samet. Probably around 1500 per night on booking or similar, Dill-Tard probably has all the details noted down in his notepad, for anyone interested.

I like that part of Thailand. Although I've fallen out of love a bit with the country over the years, I still enjoy Bangkok and some of the little coastal towns that act as gateways to the islands like Trat, Ban Phe etc.

I'd be more inclined to do something like the hotel I mentioned above or your idea next time I hit the beach. Koh Chang aside, I've probably had my fill of the actual islands themselves now and the overpriced food, accommodation and surly service.

    true dat
smaller towns are much more rewarding, and because they are not so touristy and 1 day only affairs, you dont need to pay through the nose for a hotel
