    Koh Kood AKA Ko Kut

I don't see a topic on Koh Kood so thought I'd start one, it's the best kept secret in Thailand.

Koh Kood is the easternmost island in the Gulf, just before Cambodia. Like it's neighbor Koh Chang, it's oval shaped, but about half the size and much less developed. There are only a few thousand inhabitants, and goods tend to be more expensive because, unlike Koh Chang, it lacks a car ferry service.

Boonsiri operates a high speed catamaran that makes the journey in an hour for 500 baht. Upon arrival at Ao Salad, a complementary baht bus will take you to your accommodation. Alternately, during high season, you could take a speed boat from Bang Bao on Koh Chang for 900, with a stop at Koh Mak on the way, but make sure you have strong sun screen and beware they're not equipped with life preservers. Fortunately, I'm a good swimmer.

Here's the scene as you approach Ao Salad

I stay either at Koh Kood Beach Resort or Paradise Beach Resort. Koh Kood Beach Resort is nice, with small A-frame huts, but has a very small beach.

Paradise Beach Resort has a larger beach and pool.

    There's a public beach that's never crowded

You can rent a villa from High Season Resort on the public beach for about 25,000 per night or more, depending on season. I prefer to stay elsewhere and use the public beach for free.

This isn't the most expensive place to stay on the island, however. That distinction belongs to Sovena Kiri, the most exclusive resort in Thailand. Book your 6-bedroom villa here.

There's only one farang restaurant on the Island, Pizza and Pasta, run by a very friendly Italian guy named Alex. Stop in and enjoy some fine food while he clues you in on places to go.

I always enjoy a trip to the villiage of Ao Yai in the south-east for some fresh crab at Noochy Seafood

Roads are less much treacherous than on Koh Chang

Interior roads a bit less developed

    Of course, it rains alot

    Wildlife is quite abundant

    Watch out for these guys

There are three waterfalls on the island

I like to hang out at the Sunset Bar with a mojito

For nightlife, Jong plays guitar at the Eco Bar. There's alsolutely no P4P available anywhere, so bring your own squeeze.

Hope you enjoyed this tour of Koh Kood, I strongly recommend it for a 3-day getaway, longer tends to get boring.

Beautiful island. Good Seafood. Quiet beaches. My wife and I rented scooters and buzzed all over. Right now with no or very few foreign tourists it must feel like your own private island.

    Great pics.

Thanks for that. Really nice report. I have been there and hope to get back again. Its a long enough drive that I would always stay at least 3 nights. Maybe combine with Koh Chang for a longer stay.

    Great pics RT!

    I enjoyed Koh Kut.

Much nicer than Koh Chang imo, with great seafood esp. squid.

    Welcome back!

Excellent report, thank you. It looks quite breathtaking, but the beaches . . . rocky? I'm guessing the marine life is good, in terms of snorkeling?

Koh Kood, Ko Phi Phi, and Ko Lipe were the three places I visited last year where almost no one wore masks. They’re geographically isolated with small populations. I dropped my mask after the first day, social distancing was not a problem. There were some Thai families around on the weekend but it was deserted during the week and there were no COVID cases reported in the Trat province during the first wave.

No 7/11, mud roads, everythings dead at 8pm... only thing on there worth visiting is a waterfall.

It's ok if you like your islands undeveloped and the Thailand of old full of budding young Cyrilles and Jeffs and other greasy stinkin backpackers in search of 200 baht a night accomodation who think burning their arm hairs is a good night out

Nah give me Koh Chang anyday.

    Great photoshopped pics btw

I've often though about Koh Kood, but I just can't see further than Koh Chang, which is still my favourite island (along with Koh Lipe) in Thailand.

Maybe ok for a day or so, but I kind of agree with Dil.

You've got everything you need on Koh Chang and it's already 5 or 6 hours from Bangkok if you've driven. That final push? One day...maybe.

Sometimes I only do Koh Chang, sometimes I do both. If the speedboat at Bang Bao is in operation, it’s only two hours away.

Welcome to the forum, this kind of unwarranted attack is fairly common here, many of this ilk view themselves as crossing dressing Agatha Christie amateur detectives.

Great photos and trip report! Thanks for taking the time to post.

This thread went south pretty quick.

That said, the island is a nice getaway and my wife and I enjoyed it but I tend to agree with a few others in that I prefer Koh Chang. I can load up my wave in the truck, take the truck over to the island on the ferry and yank the old Wave out of the back and zip around. The other upside I do not have to navigate the boat crossing lines lugging around a carry on and I can depart when I want. Just cannot beat it.

Yes it is. However I had an incident about 3 years back where I rented a scooter. My wife and I got about 6km or so away and the tire stem blew out. We called the hotel and after 2 hours they sent someone and the fkrs charged me for the repair and the service to pick us up. My wife was livid and had numerous words with the hotel about it but they say that people damage their scooters and all repairs or damage is paid by the renter. Additionally hotels NEVER ever maintain their stuff. Its a wait until it breaks maintenance program. Ever gone down one of those sweeping hills and yank the front brake lever and find it is soft to the handle? After that I just bring my Wave because its...well...mine, I maintain it and I do not have to turn it in by 11am or be charged more.
