    Beach getaway help please.

    Hi everyone.

Currently in Ubon and look for a getaway in about 10 days time. We normally go to PKK but want something closer this time.

Looking for a place for about 5 days. Wife and I and three kids plus maybe the SIL and a niece.

Super close or on the beach.

Although we will have a car it would be handy if we can walk to a few different food options.

Anywhere between That and Rayong. Not interested in anything close to Pattaya.

So what area would you recommend? Any hotels / resorts / Airbnb places you would recommend.

Would like some space but it doesn't have to be 5 star. Swimming pool is a bonus.

Not really on a budget but not all that keen to spend more then 4,000 baht per night if possible.

    Any help is really appreciated.

Hey buddy is That, Trat? Just under 5 hours BKK to Koh Chang, I think you would enjoy.

I've never stayed here myself, but a good mate (with kids) previously recommended me this place.

    Chaolao Cabina Resort, Chantaburi

I think chao lao is too quiet for kids, i'd go with AOs suggestion of Koh Chang.

Go Koh Chang. Its worth the drive compared to the alternatives on the Eastern Seaboard imho. You can get a big family room cheap at Paddys Palms.

Alternatives on the way to Koh Chang-
Bang Saen- Full of Thais and Luigi frequents the place
Koh Sichang - recent violent rape on the island and a bit shit
Koh Larn - Full of Chinese, clean seas but shit hotels
    Rayong- shithole
Koh Samet- expensive and full of sandflies.
    Chantaburi- barren

Keep going til you get to Koh Chang and look at Koh Mak and Koh Kood nearby

In fact, instead of driving some 400 km, and if some 4,000 Baht/night, there are few good resorts some 10 -20 km farther from Pattaya (after Yomtien area), driving the road No.3 and have a look what's available.

Then, besides the clean beaches and when bored to lay the whole day on sunshine (Thai people will surely not enjoy so much) it gives a possibility to make a good use of the many entertainments the Pattaya area offers for kids and wives - I mean not the ones for the fathers...

Have looked up Chaolao Cabina Resort, Chantaburi - thanks Mendip - looks good but reviews are a little average.

Thanks armstrong - will check your link out as well.

Thanks Klondyke - but driving from Ubon so is closer to go to Trat etc then Pattaya.

Can I take my car on a ferry to Ko Chang?

That would be great. Missus isn't keen on the ferry but might try and convince her. Would be good to see you again after all these years if the dates and location match up.
