1 day / night in Rayong

Driving down to Rayong on Sunday.

Me, swmbo and our two 5yo boys.

Only been there once and that was to transit to the island.

No idea where we are staying, swmbo booked it.

Any 'you must/try that' things to do, places to visit?

Also, driving down from Swampy (airport), anything for a short stop on the way?

After Rayong we're up to Jomtien (pattaya) for a night.

    Thanks in advance
Someone is sitting in the shade today because someone planted a tree a long time ago ...

Certain times of year are Durian times ( Not currently). Hopefully you are staying at the new Holiday Inn. We stayed there. Awesome roof top lounge and swimming pool.

Short of that there is a nice popular scenic road (Name escapes me).

I posted some pics on my " Road Trip" thread.

Have fun and let us know what you did while there.

Rayong is a huge province. Depending on what you want to do here, there is something for everyone. Apart from Samet, there are other islands to visit and stay also.

Depends on what time you are leaving Swampy, but if you fancy a Sunday roast before hitting Rayong, I would recommend this place 100%

Swmbo has an unmet Facebook friend there with twins the same age ... yippee (not)

I suggest a coast drive to Leam Maipim beach.
From Rayong town take road 1001 off Sukhumvit rd.to follow the coast to Ban Phe , a must visit with kids is the Rayon aquatic animal husbandry station ( Aquarium)
From there a coast drive to San Son (my home village) and onto Mae Pim beach.
To return back to Rayong there are plenty of exits to get back to Sukhumvit rd.
    Hope this helps David

If you fancy a Sunday roast / carvery, this family-friendly place in Banchang is pretty good. https://www.facebook.com/FinnegansBC/?epa=SEARCH_BOX

^Kmart is that Stewie's (ex Camel Pub) place?. What's it like?. Will give it a go after golf at Eastern Star some time if you rate it.

David if you need any suggestions on where to eat in Jomtien just let me know what type of food you and the tribe like, and maybe I can help.

^Yep, Terry is the ex-owner of the Camel (now sadly defunct), opened Finnegan's about 1 year already. Stewie the chef has moved on, but the food, service and draught Guinness is excellent.

Khao kheow open zoo is well worth a stop, well a succession of stops as you drive through it. If you can hide yourself in the boot you can save a few quid on that old farang price too I thought it was really good, you can get right close to and feed drugged up fallow deer and watch Somchai ride an elephant underwater which gets it some bad reviews off tree huggers on trip advisor so ignore those, we loved it.

Not much to do in Rayong compared to Pattaya for kids, sit on the beach or go to Central Mall. Luigi did a thread about the place and some dodgy looking Mermaid Land or similar kind of place.

Looks like he's deleted them all

You'll have to take the boys to Strawberry Town yourself now to find out what you're missing

postimage.org, may they rot in a cell with Texxy and Butterballs. Only use Imgur now.

Lulu, the big footstamping, image deleting, drama queen.

Strawberry town was crap and deserted.
    The beaches were rubbish tips.
The only good thing was the 180 degree seaview from the condo. Forget the name, Dildo has it written down after spending time stalking us on booking sites. Was thinking of retiring down there. 3 days was enough. Sattahip and Bang Saray were much nicer.

Yep, the combination of garbage strewn beaches and some hardcore industrialisation has left Rayong in a very poor state compared to 20 years ago.

It was the last place we visited when house searching before we switched our attention to the north.

It's still not quite as fucked up as Bang Saen, but they're getting there.

Love that zoo. They used to have AC tents you could stay in but I think they closed them.
