Interviewed with REPS a few years ago and they seemed to know what they are doing. Good class sizes, a quality reading program and the understanding that every child has a talent and it is the teachers/schools job to find it and foster it. Rote learning was discouraged and the kids seemed to be really happy if slightly rowdy- although to be fair I was warned it was a challenging class before the demo! They get to share facilities with Garden International School so extra curricular stuff should in theory be good.
Hope that helps- it's one of the jobs I really do regret turning down- seemed like a different EP school that was going places. Plenty of westerners in management which should smooth over communication issues.
They wanted me to only teach math, which at Primary 2 is not problem at all. Thing was I wanted to teach the core subjects to one class and be their homeroom teacher rather then float between several classes.Originally Posted by cyrille
Can echo what Mandaloopy says. My 5yo boy now in REPS Kindergarten. -Good facilities and teachers. He enjoys classes and activities and is doing really well. Reading in English and Thai already.
Planning to switching him up the full International (GIS or other local IS) school a bit later, but for now the price and quality of education and facilities is pretty good, comparatively.
Thanks for these informations. Could you tell me if Rayong is very polluted, which area i should avoid to live ?
Well when I was there the beach looked nice enough- some folks have reported that littering is a problem in Bang Chang beach. Thought it was a nice enough little town myself.
Really?
Drove around it one afternoon looking for property possibilities. I thought the town was a right polluted dump.
I daresay there are nicer places to live further out.
Banchang's nice; Rayong meh
REPS was one of the three schools I interviewed at back in 2008. And the only one that didn't offer me a position. Actually they told me before I interviewed that they weren't going to offer me a job but wanted to meet me. After the meeting I was told to go get 2-3 years of experience and come back.
IMHO it's better than an EP program. If you can't afford Garden International then it's the next best option.
Well, it's not the best but I found it to be far cleaner than Bang Saen which was filthy when I visited in 2014. Good seafood in all fairness, but if I want to sit under a brolly and enjoy seafood an beer Cha-am wins for me. Wrong side of the country for our OP obviouslyOriginally Posted by cyrille
Plus he's not asking about the beach...
True, but if you're going to live near one you may as well live near a decent one imo. OP would also do well to look at some of the many international schools around Pattaya- most offer a bus service for the kids. Negative ( and a rather big imho) here would be that it could be a mighty long day for kids given traffic and travel time. Regents? To add: I think one of the most important factor will be if the school offers PYP, IGCSE or something accredited internationally. Will make studying overseas much easier if that situation comes up.
What kind of cash would that be worth, Martski? The price is right in the UK but it's, well, the UK.Originally Posted by kmart
OP's got 2 posts in and already has reds .....tough crowd
Very few parents in Rayong send their kids to Regents. The price difference and the journey make Garden the more practical choice, and the quality of the other Pattaya choices isn't worth the journey.
There's a government school there that managed the regional EP competitions a few years ago, I can't remember the name of it though, but it was very highly regarded.Originally Posted by gocci888
If you're still interested, I'll send an email to get the school's name.
Rayongwittayakom School.Originally Posted by gocci888
The EP program a year ago was considered the best in the region for a government school by the Thai EP teachers I'd met during an EP competition held in Bangkok a year ago. I was one of the judges at the competition and that's where I met the teachers.
High end government schools have EP programs that rank right up there with middle range to lower upper end "international" schools in my opinion.
Outside of that, I'd recommend St. Joseph's. Their school here in Bangkok produces some of the best students I've met from any school in my experience.
"I was a good student. I comprehend very well, OK, better than I think almost anybody," - President Trump comparing his legal knowledge to a Federal judge.
