Too much rain. I like the place a lot. But June till October at least you have heavy rains. Many of the resorts shut down. May be the rainiest place in Thailand. Without that yes. But to retire.

Not full time, I think I'd get bored being stuck on an island. Would be nice to spend a few months there a year.

Lived there for nearly two years. When I first went there it was the only place I wanted to be.
But after a while it seems to get very small and same same if that makes sense.
If your are considering living there, my advice would be to rent for a year or so before committing financially.
    Beautiful place though.

^I can imagine getting some sort of cabin fever with only that limited space to roam in and needing a ferry to go anywhere else.

    I think he's been there for 14 years. https://iamkohchang.com/

I enjoyed the cloud and rain there last week. It was a nice break from the baking sun in Bangkok.

I wouldn't live there as there's no university, I need to live within close proximity to a Uni , renting cheap bed sit.
    More buck for your money.

I lived there for 7 years. It was great. Except for all the rain and power outages.

Heading down here in a few weeks and I remember a time not so long ago when there were no girlie bars on the island. That wasn't the case on my last visit about 7 or 8 years ago, but they weren't in your face and were a fairly relaxed place for a drink.

What should I expect these days? Plenty more bars I'm sure, but still the opportunity to get offside and enjoy decent beaches and scenery without hordes of tourists clamouring for attention, I presume.

You will need a large amount of money in the bank, as it is not cheap on the Island

Not much in June. August to October is the worst of it.

Anyway an island like that for 6 months and north near CM for 6 months would be the way to go. Best of both worlds.

Chang from January to June and CM from July to December.

I'm suprised expats arent already doing this.

Depends on timing. May and June are good months. Awesome bungalow deals after May 15.

I went down for 4 or 5 days once in June. It pissed down every day for the first 3 days, so I fucked off back to Bangkok on the 4th.

As you say, the bungalow was cheap though.
