Spent 10 days there in June. Rained night and early morning sometimes. Days were hot and sunny.

Useful to look at 7 day forecasts before going though. I wouldnt let one unlucky experience put you off.

It doesn't rain everyday and most things are open.

OK maybe not every day but the rain that does fall, nearly everyday, is equal to a weeks rain elsewhere

Yep, stayed there a couple of times. Also Kai Bae beach area. Never had a bad experience there tbh, although we only stay for a few days (3-6) at a time.

Just avoid rainy season and Thai National holidays, (& sometimes weekends) as queues for the ferry can get ridiculous at these times.

Lonely beach is a dump. Beach gets rips as well.

Kai Bee and Khlong Prao are good.

August to October are the worst months. Same as Phuket just double the rain.

Tons of kway teow and kau gang shops at all the main places. Mostly on the main round the island road. 10 baht or so more a plate to cover transportation to the island. We often take a simple Thai lunch after the hotel breakfast. Then go out for a nice dinner. Dont go to Bang Bao where your crew will want to go. A tourist trap that mostly takes the Thai customers money. Great seafood but very overpriced. Its also a bitch of a road back late at night..
