    You will have made the right move if the navy move in and close the place to overnight stays for a year though - as they did about 18 years ago.

    Samet is national park land, and as such should, in theory at least, not have buildings intended for overnight stays built on it.

    Your wife's decision may yet be proven correct...

    Went to Koh Samet a few years ago. It was nice but crowded and relatively expensive.

    Over all, I like Prachup Khirin Khan much better than all the Thai islands that I have visited (including Koh Chang, Koh Samui (pits IMO), Koh Phuket, Koh Samet, & Koh Phi Phi). I hear good things about Krabi, so maybe that's where my wife and I will go next.

    If i would of bought back then and the prices went up the way they did i would of sold, so i would of gained.

    Hindsight is a wonderful thing. However, there was still a big chance that you could have lost the lot in the land of coups. Better to buy into something with more of a guarantee if you don't want sleepless nights of 'will they won't they'

    Just my opinion but if one was to loose the lot, this would be one of the places it could happen
