as an australian who grew up in the outback of new south wales, snakes were a part of life.
have had many what i call close encounters with them.
the most amazing, and i think the start of my phobia, was when my father took me duck shooting on the darling river. the river was 80km wide due to flooding, so we stopped the cars, unloaded the small tinny/boat and off we went. the boat was unstable, and me being the lad on the trip was deposited in a gum tree, told to shoot at any ducks that swung around, and off they all went.
what do snakes do when there is a flood? get out of the water. where did they go. up my tree. every fork in the tree was inhabited by a snake. mostly brown and king brown. heard a plop, looked around, and here comes, not going, an 8 ft king brown. came towrds me and put on the best cobra impersonation i have ever seen. this whilst swimming.
i had a broken down single barrel shot gun and a 1/3 full bucket of reloads. after 30 plus snakes had decided to check me out. i was rathher on edge.
when the boat and the oldman came back, they asked me where all the ducks were. they had heard me shooting. only had 3 cartridges left.

think my oldman went without sex for a long time after that. my mother finally got what happened out of me. she was worried about me. a confident 13 year old who had suddenly developed a stammer.
    only in aus. hey

The snake that is responsible for the most deaths in Asia is the Krait, they are small, but, very venomous. Most of the deaths are in India.

But isn't the Krait snake mostly down in Southern Thailand?

LC, where are you exactly at, within reason...

Just did some googling and you're right. Not the Krait. Russel's Viper it is.
    Apologies.

You really need to get that treated. It will start itching and peeling if you don't put some medicication on it quickly. Then the doctors will have to break out that barbed wire instrument.
