What kind of lizard is this?

Can anyone tell me what kind of lizard this is? It didn't have a tail, just a stump but I was thinking maybe it had come off like gecko tails do...

From the dragon family. They make a good pet if you are into such things.

The tails are in sections and are designed to break off safely as an escape aid. Normally it will grow back, but in older animals there is a noticeable difference in colour.

It's a beauty. I used to keep the local version as pets as a kid and breed them, then let them loose on my mum's rockery. she was pleased as punch as they ate every bug in sight.

From Wiki, The Oriental Garden Lizard, Eastern Garden Lizard or Changeable Lizard (Calotes versicolor)

Changeable Lizards are related to iguanas (which are found only in the New World). Unlike other lizards, they do not drop their tails (autotomy), and their tails can be very long, stiff and pointy. Like other reptiles, they shed their skins. Like chameleons, Changeable Lizards can move each of their eyes in different directions.

^I guess my lizard had a little accident with something (or someone) then...

A friend said Gin Gar when I showed him the pic and told me a story that is told to children apparently... a long time ago the king was going for a walk and came across a gin gar. The gin gar put his head down and the King thought wow so respectful and put a gold ring around the lizard's neck and went on his way.
The next time he was out walking and came across the lizard however this time the lizard didn't lower his head and the King was most displeased and removed the gold ring. The message is for children not to be like animals and always show respect... I think.
and he just stands there, waiting for me to drive my truck straight through him, with LIGHT coming out of his mouth!
