what sort of a snake is this in my garden.

Last week, I had a banded krait in my garden.

didn't stick around to get my camera for that one.

i know they are pretty lethal.

this morning got a couple of pictures of another type of snake that doesn't look very dangerous.

anyone know what they are?

first one looks like some sort of water snake, over a metre long but living in my tree.

no idea about the second one that is a bit bigger.

think the rain must be bringing them out because up until last week I hadn't seen any even though the neighbours had told me the area was rich in snake life.

first one looks like a rat snake.(on account of it's big rat eyes). i saw one that was [at] 2.5 mtrs long....pretty freaky as only i only saw the head poking out of the pond it was in before i disturbed it.
second one is a copper head rat snake...? both non-venomous.

The thought of snakes in me garden scares the hell out of me as me babies are out there all day.

What do you do to protect your dog(s), CMN?

That snake, in picture, does look poisonous to me.

Jeez, years since I've seen one of them. It's the asian rock viper. Probably the most dangerous snake in the north. It's found all the way across the mountains of Thailand, acrooss burma and way into the himalayas. Big problem if found near your house as it's probably looking for somewhere warm and dry, like your bed, to make a nest. KEEP WELL CLEAR

I'm being trolled I think.

no way is that thing deadly looking.

I was led to believe that all poisonous snakes had protruding cheeks where they kept their venom.
this one has a head a bit like an eel.

The way I identify snakes is:

Vertical slit pupil (like cats) = venomous
Round pupil (like humans) = non-venomous
Head shape = arrowhead = venomous

They only look like that when they are on a rock. When in trees they suck in their cheeks and disguise themselves as common rat snakes to lure unsuspecting Welshmen into their clutches.

The second one is exactly the same as the one I had in my garden about a month ago. I described it in the 'Show us yer snake thread', but my pics were crap. Mine was about 2m long and didn't seem dangerous. I couldn't find it on any websites, but you have to search by classification & I didn't know what the bloody thing was.

That first thing is lethal - the Asian hunts snake, the wife who's from Mae Wang, Chiang Mai as just told me her cat got killed by one of these whislt sheltering from the rain; she said her cat was convulsing and died with 10 minutes; apparently the poison is that strong. She mentions that Thais are very afraid of these and have nickname for them - ตายอย่างไม่มีปัยหา !

I've been trying to find out as much as possible about snakes indiginous to this area.

which ones I should be wary of and so on.

I took these pics at a distance of about 2 metres with my arm stretched out a long way, most of the shots were totally out of focus.
lucked out with a couple.

the top one scared me when it let itself drop through the branches.

Indo-Chinese Ratsnake. Pretty sure this is your boy. Harmless but always be careful. Will keep the rats and mice out of the house.
