A guide to wildlife in Thailand

    Guide to wild life

Are there any English language guides to Thai wildlife. You know the sort, you see something and you want to put a name to it.

The Thais just seem to tell me what bites or stings or tastes nice. I want a little bit more than that.

    So any recommendations ?

Good luck to you that you have seen something. Where I live they have already ate everything that walks or crawls.

I have a nicely illustrated book on the snakes of Thailand and the Malay peninsula but bought in Oz.

Major Bookshops Kinoykia, Dk or Asia Books in Bkk, in C Mai Gekko and others near Tapae Gate have a fiar choice. In C Rai Orn's hard to find but friendly used book shop is full of hidden gems in a soi behind Wat Jet Yot.

K deliver free to me I think there may be a min order value

I saw something the other day that baffled me.
    Seemed like a rabbit.
But I didn't get a good look at it. Only as it was running away for about a sec.
Not a whole lot out there, here in Phuket anyway.
Only monkeys (gibbons too) and wild boars.
I have seen deer shit already and was told it is probably from deer that some guy used to raise here but the govt made him stop.

In Issan, I've seen wild elephants and lots of sign of them also.
But the one the other day was a surprise and I don't know what it could have been.
Size of a marmot or rabbit, but moving fast. (wasn't a rat, no tail really)

So can you describe what you've seen OP?

You can do what I do and go through this list
    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...ve_to_Thailand
and by common sense and general knowledge eliminate most of them> Many on the list, if you hover over the name brings up a picture, or you can google each possible suspect for a picture.

I came across a creature a few months back. It had died on the road but was intact. I asked a neighbour what it was because I had never seen this animal before and the neighbour insisted it was a rat. I could see it was not a rat so used the above wiki to whittle suspects down until I found it was a tree shrew.
I also used the above method to identify a civet I saw one night.

Have you tried looking at amazon.co.uk to see what books they have on the subject?

Thank you all for the kindly responses.
Sad to say its like in England where you inspect road kill and put a name to it.
I'll just live with it. I like to know who I share this earth with.

    Thanks again
