Swamp Cat! Back from the dead in Chiang Mai

CHIANG MAI — Two swamp cats were found to be alive and well in a northern wildlife sanctuary more than 40 years after they were thought to have gone extinct from Thailand, wildlife officials announced Thursday.

The male and female swamp cats were captured on film late last month in the Omkoi Wildlife Sanctuary by freelance photographer Parinya Padungtin, who traveled along on patrols there for over a month, according to Thanya Netithamkul, director of the National Parks Department

The medium-size cats were last reported in 1976, Thanya said, with no evidence they remained until two weeks ago.

“The good news is that I tried to look for its penis, but its face was sweet, I think. I guess it’s a female swamp cat.”

Sweet mouth, more likely...Pag wan...Probably a ladyboy cat...

Seriously, that's interesting news...Got that coyote look to them...And some are pretty much the same size...

Got a new "breed" in Canada, cross between a wolf and a coyote...coy-wolf, maybe...

More aggressive than their smaller "cousins"...

Nice to hear a bit of good news on Thailand's wildlife for a change.

Saw a family of these "Leopard Cats" crossing a disused road in Rayong recently. Beautiful animals up close.

They must have some damn strange looking coyotes up your way for them to resemble felines.

^ The coyotes are clever and just eat all the cats...But keep their distance, generally, from the larger ones like mountain lions...

Almost as rare as the Lat Krabang fishing dogs?
