5. blend - cheaper + water +/or ice +/or mix
6. cheap blend + what ever

Not sure I would taint anything with JW Blue - 225quid a bottle - neat/perhaps with 1 ice cube.
The old highland way is a glass of fine whiskey and a glass of water on the side for occasional sips. No ice and definately no mixing.

I'm not a fan of scotch, I don't like my drinks to taste like burnt wood or peat, Irish whiskey is far better.
Working im Scotland many years ago and my Scots friends wife worked at a brewery. She told me that the cheap mixed blends were the best to drink as they were blended from the remnants of the casks of the more expensive whiskeys.
Always preferred a good tallisker myself BUT????
