I used to look for good wines in bkk, the Villa was I think defenitely had the best selection in bkk but honestly, TESCO is not bad at all, especialy as you can regulary find wines from Chile or California for around 299 ( it just seems wrong to drink wine from a box) If you are in chiang mai the same goes for TESCO or you could find a selection better than the villas at Rim Ping supermarketOriginally Posted by t.s

You can take one normal bottle I think 75Cl tax free. The rest you can take as much as you like but 200% tax plus 7% vat. I guess buy them here cheaper.
Yeh, it's true. Wine cork pop in cargo of the plane. They don't allow you to take liquid into flight anymore (bomb reason). Again, buy them here cheaper than labour it all the way around the world. Or better yet send cargo shipment control tempt. and go though normal custom.
I always stash at least 5 bottles of wine in my luggage and have never had any pop when flying.
Neither have I. Beer cans no problem either.
^ actually a friend of mine had a can of beer explode in his suitcase so...
Some dickhead in Aus had a bottle of red and a bottle of Bundy break on him recently.
Life is too short to drink bad wine
I just polished off a bottle of Argentinian red I brought back from the border at Poipet and very nice it was too. Tonight I have a Chilean red which I'm just about to uncork.
I pay around $10 per bottle from the Bayon Market international supermarket when I'm in Phnom Penh (it's on Monivong). The same wines are from 1,200THB up to a staggering 3,000THB in Foodland.
There's a lot of discrepancy with prices at Thai supermarkets so shop carefully.

Link to order wine online at Bacchus Soi Ruam Rudee...
You can select wine by prices, they might even home deliver and take back overstock of parties...

Brought back a couple of bottles from Cambodia, taking advantage of the reasonable prices there.
Guigal 2005 Côtes du Rhône. Paid $18.00 (650thb). Same wine is 980thb in Foodland.
Penfold's Shiraz Mourvedre Bin 2 2006 was $11.50 (414thb). They were wanting a ridiculous 1,750thb in Foodland for this one. Shurely shome mishtake?

We recently dropped into this little winery near Khorat - Village Fam - Wang Nam Keow district, Nakhorn Ratchasima , Thailand
Bought a swag of cleanskins at 600 baht a bottle. Great little restuarant in there and worth checking out .
Lot of wine smuggling going on here now.
I have numbers of two people who sell wine at vastly reduced prices. Though they do prefer to buy by the crate, they will also do small orders.
We club together at work and make very large orders and get good prices, but still nothing like you would pay in Australia for the oz wines.
If i remember correctly we pay 1300 for a Penfold 389, I'll publish the latest list here later if I still have it in my inbox.
Go to Loie for a holiday and taste the wines before you buy, they do day tours.
I am not much of a wine drinker but injoyed there dessert wines
I like there white wine(chenin blanc)and is reasonable value, the red is syrah ,but in my opinion only regular.i dint like rose ,so I didn't tried it.

It's 'their' if you don't mind.
Actually, I'm surprised the Aussie cock spelled 'dessert' correctly. Well done - have a star.
^ after injoyed???...........you must be kidding.
If you are willing to shop around it is possible to find some pretty good wines in Chiang Mai: Kasem, Rimping, Carrefour and Darling Wine Pub are all worth checking out. There is also a wine shop in Tachilek where, if you are doing a visa run to Mae Sai, you can pick up some pretty decent wine for a reasonable price.

Babcock,
Hope you still have your price list. Looking forward to seeing it.
Sorry about that Bobcock. I'll wear the reading glasses next time.
