Say, I'll grab a coupla of cans from Singapore on my next return trip and if I'm lucky to horde a dozen along, you guys can have it as a toast to the next meet somewhere in Bangkok, I hope!

If you are brave & willing of course and my wife may join us as well but not on the scarce Guinness...LoL

Its the place I make a pit stop for several days to wind up and prepare my belly with some spicy food (like chilly crabs) there B4 flying up again to BKK.

Thailand is still virgin and raw for me but I'm out here someday to relocate and spend a good time just to relax and delve more in wellness within the serenity of some clean air and peaceful serenity by some hillside resort if mine is unavailable resulting from long-term leasing plans to others also seeking wellness and sensual boredom and where else is best known for this? Thailand for sure!

I stopped drinking beer back in 98 when I did the world tour.

Drunk mostly bottled lager going around, and loads of water.

Stopped drinking both 10 years back, and just drink medicinal tots now.

Best decision I ever made, alrhough I still do a couple of bottles when in soi 6, er I mean soi 8

Goodday ....Guinness guys and if its another stout, that includes Kilkenny too!

Like Bettyboo, downing Guinness like a runaway drainpipe is with me too but frankly, its not so much on how many one can waterboard one's belly with pints after pints to prove a point, its more on enjoying the bitter-sweet taste with modest intake and sane control with coherent conversation on any session.

Kilkenny is naturally a one way ticket to stifle the mind in no time... then a pint or two is advise not only to control oneself with overspill but more so too with a rational appearance for the remaining time & trip to your hammock...LoL

The buzz: Imported beers in bistro settings continue to be a trend, and thanks to a combination of location, a ready supply of officer workers and a decent menu involving hearty European fare, Block Beer and Bistro is getting busy already.

The décor: A colorful atmosphere, with exposed brick walls sporting photos and shelves lined with beer bottles from around the world. The third floor balcony seating offers nice views of Narathiwas. In a cute twist, the square tables double as Snakes and Ladders boards, while the round tables offer the option of roulette. The indoors area is furnished with black velvet couches.

The food: The menu here is mostly European with some Thai-inter fusion, all of which goes well with beer. Expect dishes like smoked duck breast with prune & orange glaze (B355) and the German-style lamb shank (B380). More Asian-fusion dishes include the chicken schnitzel with red curry dressing and fries (B200) and Japanese cold noodles with seared salmon (B180). Their lunch sets (11am-2pm) has some very affordable choices like the chicken Basque (B99, B99 extra for rice and soup)

The drinks: No local beers here—not even Heineken. A respectable number of brews on tap: Hoegaarden, Stella, Leffe, Guiness and Hofbrau (B220 per pint, B130 for half). They also carry an impressive selection of Belgian labels including Kasteel Bruin, Maredsous, Blanche De Namur, Waterloo, and Krombacher, with prices starting at B200 per bottle. For strong beer lovers, there’s the 11% alcohol Inedit from El Bulli (B790/750ml). They also have their own beer brand Bloc, which is brewed in Belgium (B180).

The crowd: Mostly an after-work crowd with a fair smattering of foreigners. Monruedee Jansuttipan

...and I certainly will stay clear from the Hoegaarden. The brewery is just 800m away from where my other suburban farmhouse is, in Hoegaarden itself of course! Hoegaarden is "heerlijk" to some and I have my fair share of enjoying it more than enough for the moment.

I do stock a crate of Hoegaarden in my Dutch home, just for my guests, when in Holland, they always like something from Belgium, just to make up for the ambiance.

4.2% is the perfect strength.

I have had some nice IPAs in the 6% range. It takes a hoppy beer to make it work I think.

You have a point there and in fact, that is the motive behind it too.

The "smart" host actually stacks a crate which has an excessive "overdose" next to 3 other crates of regular "perfect" strength to offset the compulsive drinker that wallows by the gallons in a single hour as a guest.
Once it becomes noticeable, it is not impolite to suggest : "hey buddy, you have one too many for tonight, the cap ends here after this next spill..."

Its a good gauge to apply but don't tell your alcoholic-incline guest that he only had 6 beers (while he would have consumed close to 20 on a perfect strength beer) before it became noticeable and should STOP.

I had an Epic Hop Zombie last week. 8.5% Served in a 300mL glass. Nothing treacly about it.

Funny you should say that Sabai I am enjoying a well deserved one now , but I am mixing it with a SVYTURYS 1784 EKSTRA 5.2% only had a half of this mixture so far and am allready thinking of loggin in to TV with the nick they dont know about ,,,,,,,,,,,, best not have much more , might go on and say something really contraversial , like gay person or homosexual

SYDNEY - A man who drank six bottles of alcohol-based hand sanitizer while being treated in an Australian hospital for alcoholism has sparked calls for the anti-bacterial gels to be better secured.
Doctors said in a letter published Sunday in the Medical Journal of Australia that they were stunned to discover the man had downed six 375-millilitre (12.7-ounce) bottles of hand sanitizer, giving him a blood-alcohol concentration of 0.271 per cent. That's more than five times higher than the 0.05 per cent legal limit for driving in Australia.
Dr. Michael Oldmeadow, an internist at The Alfred hospital in Melbourne city, said that although the incident was not the first of its kind, it was the most serious case he had seen and the man is lucky to have survived.
"It surprised us that he drank this stuff," Oldmeadow said, according to the Australian Associated Press. "It's horrendous. You'd think it would taste pretty bad."
The 45-year-old had been undergoing treatment for alcohol-related gastritis when he drank the sanitizer. The gel has an ethanol content of 66 per cent and is routinely used by medical staff to prevent infection.
The man had been admitted to hospital three days earlier and suddenly became drowsy for no apparent reason. After nurses cleaning his bed discovered the near-empty sanitizer bottles, the man admitted to drinking the sanitizer and agreed to undergo a breath test.
When the incident occurred was unclear, but Oldmeadow and three of his colleagues said in the letter that three other patients also drank hand sanitizer at The Alfred in the last six months.
They said the incident highlighted the need for hospitals to bolt hand sanitizer bottles to walls so they could only be refilled but never removed. In Australian hospitals, the bottles are commonly held in wire baskets and are easily removed, but the doctors said at least one U.S. hospital is using non-removable dispensers.
