I probably said this before in this thread but I love a cold Asahi. I've just cracked one open and its great.

Before my choice of beer was Leo at home and Asahi when out but I've just started gettin Asahi cans and its bloody nice. Get it icy cold and its pretty consistent to the taste of a nice pint...mmmm

Asahi, or Beer Lao, when available. A few local German restaurants have now started stocking Paulener and Erdinger, either dark or light. Yippee!

Failing those mentioned above, A Tiger will suffice.

The places I go to mostly have Beck's. In local places I drink either Anchor or Angkor.

There's a new beer in Phnom Penh now, Kingdom Beer. Dutch manager, German brewmaster, quite nice if drunk from a glass, a bit bitter if from a bottle.

That bitter taste is the hops. Hops is what make a beer good.

    Agree.

I think it's fine. My friends say it's bitter.

On the homebrew whilst downunder... I go through a "brew on premesis" type place which makes 150 different kinds of beer (100 odd are copies of commercial brands, others are his own recepes). So far they all taste better than the real thing, and since they are preservative free, no hangover! Even after too many, no headache at all... Seedy in the guts yes but no "I want to die" hangover.

Whist in LOS it's generally whatever's going around, there hasn't been one I've latched onto apart from chang (I know... I know...) simply because:
    1. Cathouse all you can drink for 100THB (yes, it's been that long...) and
    2. Whilst staying in Phuket in a guesthouse a bar across the road closed down and it was 10THB beers all round! The lady who owned the guesthouse my mate and I were staying at told us we could store all our (chang) in her fridge so long as we helped her carry her (heinekin) beer across the street... knocked over 3 cases between us in a few days... quite an achievement since we were drinking out at night...
Just trying to have a little bit of fun, folks, that's all. - Dean Martin

maybe it is a disease, but suddenly I've lost my taste for Angkor beer

    Four beer workers die
    FRIDAY, 20 MAY 2011 15:00 TEP NIMOL

AN employee of the Angkor Beer Factory in Preah Sihanouk province died yesterday, becoming the fourth worker to die in similar circumstances during the last two weeks.

Police confirmed yesterday that welder Ny Nang, 36, passed away after experiencing diarrhoea and vomiting. Three beer factory construction workers have also died in the province since May 12.

Provincial police chief Kul Thaly said yesterday that the workers died from a disease.

Usually Tiger but I get pissed quite fast on it.

There is a new pub just opened next door to the hotel that I stay in in Johor Baru called Overtime (this chain of pubs is all the rage here) and they brew a really nice beer but at 35 Ringit (360 Baht) for a pint is outrageously expensive but they are packing in the people and a lot of young ladies.

Ah, reading this thread helps me miss Thailand even less.
If I'm in hte mood for a larger I'll head down to the Thai Fusion joint (really farang food with a hint of Thai flavor, with stickyrice!) for a Dark beer Lao or the Mexican Joint for a Negra Modelo and fresh made-to-order corn tortillas. If I'm Buying at the store, or out at the western joints serving BBQ, Pot Roast or the like I'll usually sample one of the IPAs, ESBs or whatever looks fresh. Warning labels stating "Live Beer, Keep Refrigerated" are a good sign. I've never had much use for Lagers. Thank fuck I'm out of that god-forsaken hell-hole. Bitter Ales, Pale Ales, Brown Ales, Porters and Stouts; they're everywhere. Now If I could figure out how to turn up the heat 'round here this place'd be perfect!

For many years I've said Coors light for quantity and Guinness for quality. Lucky for me I'm older now and I don't do the quantity thing anymore, so on the rare occasions that Guinness is available I drink it. I'm a darker the better beer guy, but if I don't see anything interesting there's always Tiger or Singha
