Saw this entry level Glenlivet in Tops. Strange thing was it didn't seem to have an age listing on it.

    You ever have it Loops?

To be honest I'm a fan of the Glenmorangie 10 yr old, which I rate above the entry-level 12 yr olds in the same class.

It's the replacement of the former 12 years old in their range. A so-called 'no-ager', a recent trend where barrels of varying age are mixed to arrive at a desired flavour (all from the same distillery, so it's still a single malt).

    Cheers.

Think I'll stick with the Glenmorangie 10 yr old when going for an entry level bottle.

It really does punch above its weight.

Tried one of these last week. Simply outstanding. Expensive though. Sold out in most places in NZ.

I have tried Gin and man is that an acquired taste. You ALWAYS have to mix it with something and even then. Never heard or seen anyone sip it "Neat". I bet that would be the ultimate "Gag" reflex.

I was doing a product transfer to company called RET in Sidcup England and they all smoked Phillip Morris Ovals and drank Gin and Tonics.....Nasty........

There is an alternative for those of us who can't handle a man's drink.... 2 fingers of Hendricks Gin, a couple of cucumber slices, a dollop of syrup, a dash of lime juice, then into a cocktail shaker for 14 seconds, before slowly being poured into an ice lined cocktail glass. Decorate with cucumber slice, a pinch of salt, and a twist of pepper.
    Bottoms Up

Geeezuuus Cooorist is that a cumbersome process to make a drink. I'd be exhausted making it. LOL.

Outside of that I can't stand cucumbers so that would never fly. What about some triple sec with a splash of lime......?

Had a bottle of the 12yo a couple of year ago.

Quite similar to Glenmorangie from what I recall.

The Talisker Storm I got recently is also a no-ager.

G&T is my favourite flying drink.

Tanqueray is what I have got at home and is better than Dilli's blue sapphire I reckon.

I have never heard of people drinking gin straight so I tried adding 15% syrup to it just to see what it was like. Not the best idea I have ever had!

I do, if it's a good one like Bombay Sapphire. Just like you don't mix a good Malt with Coke.

Just quietly, I don't mind an occasional GnT.

But it's a Summer drink for me.

I dream of the day though, when I can afford to drink single malts as my daily sustenance

I was led to believe, from some reviews on the net, that Talisker was a smoky whisky and that the Storm bottling was smokier than usual but I cannot say that there is much of a smoky aroma to this stuff. Certainly not compared to super-charged satanic Smokehead.
Have to revise my opinion of this Talisker Storm up.

It is as smooth as the freshly shaved bees bollox and makes the smokehead seem quite rough by comparison.

It is going cheap in Dan Murphys atm at au$49. But gets a proper skelping in the reviews. I think the Fiddy 12yo next to it would be better value.

    Anybody tried JW Double Black?

Supposed to be JWs smokiest blend to date.

Yeah, was just in Tops buying beer and looked at their selection.

Would definitely go for the Glenmorangie 10 yr old about the Glenlivet, and even before the Fiddy 12 yr old. I really rate it as an entry level single-malt.

Top Tip for the thrifty tippler:-

When your $119 bottle of Lagavulin runs out replace the contents with $69 Smokehead

    The Malt Whisky Thread-img_20210130_223714-jpg

    https://www.danmurphys.com.au/produc...h-whisky-700ml

This will not fool a discerning whisky buff due to the Smokehead having the palest colour of any whisky I have ever encountered.

However it still has the full on smoky smell and my palate is not refined enough to tell one decent single malt from another so I can fool myself easily.
