    Ode to Beerlao
Living in Laos i get to drink a lot of this precious nectar and you cant seem to go anywhere without being reminded to have one, advertising is everywhere, not that it needs any,
So heres a pictorial Tribute to Beerlao (in no particular order and with a lot of good looking beerlao calender girls thrown in for good measure)

    Beerlao facts
its a simple and unfortunate formula- Take a Country, add liberal (pun intended)
doses of communism and you will invariably end up with poverty and oppresion.
However the Lao people have taken a different tact. To poverty and oppresion they have added an affordable, delicious and alcoholic national drink,

And in beerlao they have a national beer of which to be very, and rightly proud, The product is of high quality and dirt cheap.

The Lao government hasn’t done themselves any favours with the chosen name of their currency. The Kip is unique among currencies in it’s ability to both sound worthless and makes one want to lie down for a little nap. Not even Eddie Maguire could get someone excited about a Lao version of “Who wants to be a millionaire?” a show where you would simply go to an ATM and take out the equivalent of $100USD.

Punters might be surprised to know that the brewmaster behind one of asias most drinkable beers is a woman. Sivilay Lasachack is a Lao born , czech trained bremaster who doesnt actually drink alcohol but prefers tea, fortunately there are hordes of punters lining up to take the rice based booze of her hands

Lao brewery co, ltd, has set its own quality standard for water and all raw materials which are used in the production All imported materials are inspected, examined and compared to the company standard before use

Every step of the production process has a standard for quality control in order to monitor the quality at different stages
The Laboratory has modern and international standard equipment according to EBC (european brewing convention)

    Might get one of these

What started out as a production capacity of 3 million liters of this wonderful brew in 1973, grew into a capacity of 220 million liters last year, This is almost a liter per person of the combined population of laos , thailand, cambodia, vietnam and the philippines

Laos is one of the poorest - and most sparsely populated countries in south east asia, but the brewery is state of the art and its running nonstop, producing beerlao in bottles kegs and cans The brewery makes 80 000 cases of king browns a day

Great Beer, but it has changed in taste over the years, a few years back it faded in taste, it's getting better again more like the original version. Getting more expensive too

I wouldnt call it expensive, the most you are likely to pay for a tall one would be 15000 kip and thats in a bar, way less in a minimart .

    The brew master herself

The brewmaster from laos has it in her head to make her countrys national beer into a global brand -or at least a niche brand with a global reach, The tiny landlocked nation has no real history of beer making,or exporting but 49 year old sivilay says that doesnt deter her. I dont like to drink she says, i am a brewmaster but cant drink a lot of beer because i prefer not to get drunk" But she does like to make beer.

Beerlao is a premium authentic rice beer brewed from a unique blend of the finest european and Lao ingrediants, a fusion of the best traditions of east and west

Brewed in Laos with handpicked indigenous rice varieties , spring water originating from the foothills of the himalayas, Hallertau hops, german yeast and french malted barley.

Beerlao seems to have overtaken the buddhist religion as the most promoted and influential symbel in Laos , because everywhere you travel in the country theres always something to remind you of beerlao, Nearly all items , including clothing, calenders, homeware etc, are bombarded by the promotion of beerlao

If you have never heard of beerlao then you dont know much about laos, Beerlao can easily be found anywhere in laos, in fact beerlao is more available in stores than drinking water. nowadays, beerlao is exported to 13 countries in the world at a higher price than the beer sold in laos

Restaurants and clubs in laos, sell beerlao, and proudly display beerlao banners around the establishment, Beerlao is also heavily involved in annual events such as the that luang and boat racing festivals, Some may argue that better promoted singapore brewed tiger is the best but i beg to differ

    Tragic

    Yes, its that good"

On the official Beer Lao website (http://www.beerlao.co.uk) it states that it, "Beer Lao proclaimed as Asia's best beer by Time Magazine (in 2004) and hailed as the Dom Perignon of Asian beers by the Bangkok Post..."

    Famous quotes
You cant be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline- it helps if you have some kind of football team or nuclear weapons, but at the very least you need a ecent beer

Love the Beer Lao. My go is the Dark, that's a brilliant drop and gives me the horn much like some of the minxs in those pics.

When on the piss in Bangkok we have a Thai mate who buys the Dark by the cartoon and bangs it on Ice before we hit his bar. Sitting outside drinking the Dark and eating Jap food is a brilliant night out.

Funny thing though, I have just finished punching out a 3 K road trip through North East Thailand taking in the Mekong route through Chang khan, Mukdahan and similar destinations and could not get beer lao for love or money.

Only shit Thai beer like Cheers, Chang and Singa could not even get a can of Guinness from 7 Eleven.

    Foked innit.

^ The Darks awesome, i drink it when im on break, it kicks my arse at 6.5% have to stick to the regular when im at work, Lao beers sometimes not easy to get in Thailand other times its all over the place, pretty sure the thais would be fucked if they let it compete with thai piss, A brewery was established in champassak for the eventual lifting of the tariff but its never happened,

A bit more about the dark beer
The dark lager is a unique brew even within the burgeoning and experimental International beer scene, and Beerlao’s take on the variety excels in the genre. Despite its smokey, malty notes Beerlao Dark Lager still finishes crisp, meaning it pairs well with regional cuisine without being reduced to flavorless yellow fizzy water. UNLESS SOME KUNT KEEPS IT OUT THE BACKYARD IN THE SUN
Its cheap to, as such its reserved for special occasions such as birthdays or every fuckin day

These beer towers are popular in vientiane ive noticed

Pull up a chair and have a beer boys

Youve got to hand it to the Lao,s they make sure the precious nector gets delivered one way or the other

Cases of beerlao dark, getting delivered, 24 hours in a day and 24 beers in a box , Coincidence? i think not

A new comer on the scene is lane xang beer or elephant beer.
LaneXang, by BeerLao, is a different animal all together. It actually has some hoppy aromatics and good bitterness going on, and there’s a hint of homebrew yeastiness. It’s drinkable, It’s also rather uncommon, as i have found it sold at only a few place so far.

Amazing! Beerlao obsession. Scrolled through it fully, the names of the bars are definetly unique as are Beerlao's nic.'s. You must be in heaven when Beerlao is on tap?

Ladies look a bit sharp featured as in Northern Thai. Nice.

Great post BLD, keep it up you're heading towards immortality on T.D.

Don't think the beer lao affects your liver, as its design calls for a "one pass," system BLD.

BTW, have you got stock options on Beer Lao? Might be the Lao equivalent of Singa?

Are they paying you for the endorsements and advertising?
