Fifty years ago the Heineken Beer company looked at reshaping its beer bottle to be useful as a building block. It never happened, so Buddhist monks from Thailand's Sisaket province took matters into their own hands and collected a million bottles to build the Wat Pa Maha Chedi Kaew temple. It puts every other bottle building we have shown to shame.

Even the washrooms and the crematorium are built of bottles, a mix of green Heineken and brown local Chang beer.

hmmmm, 50 years ago they had Heiniken here?
Nope don't believe that, carlsberg came before heineken here and that was around 16 years ago.

^Why? Do you think the monks had to drink all the beer themselves first? Is there something inherently evil about empty beer bottles that you wouldn't find in an empty lemonade bottle?

They use bongs as planters out on the back porch and tie back their robes with roach clips.

Pretty impressive effort. One million bottles; even just collecting them would've taken a fair bit.

^^^^ Point taken, thought alcohol goes against Buddhist Principles. Someone had to drink that, what if one such bloke had consumed some of that beer and went home and beat his wife? That would be frowned upon or possibly evil under Budddhist principles right?

The constant donation of bottles from visitors helped the monks raise the unprecedented, environment-friendly edifice as it stands today. Besides the fact that glass is a reliable building material that also looks interesting, it allows the presence of natural light, doesn't fade in time, and is much easier to maintain than other types of construction materials. Currently, monks are still accepting donations of bottles. According to Abbot San Kataboonyo's declaration to Reuters, “The more bottles we get, the more buildings we make.”

If his wife lived a good live in her previous incarnation she wouldn't have been born a woman. If she gets enough beatings she'll pay off her karmic debt and be reborn as a katoey, if she's a good katoey she'll be reborn as a man. The man, of course, because he beat his wife, will be reborn as a woman and beaten in turn. All of this can be avoided by sufficient tam boon or a good collection of amulets. Ain't Thai buddhism great?

So what happens to the women who stab, push blokes off balconies and rob farang after drugging them?

They get cars, houses, lots of cash, and go back to living with their real hubbie, Somchai. When the money runs out they do it all over again. After death they're generally reborn as high-up politicians and Police Generals.
