Thai Coffins, have you made your choice yet?

Well as some of the members are really old on here I thought it best to get this thread in here ASAP.

Anyway this picture here on the left is the workshop for making the coffins, seems they are made out of 10mm ply wood, got to admit I was thinking of something a bit nicer for my own funeral, maybe a mix of pine and mahogany with nice brass handles and studs and all that, nice velvet lining, still the odds are my girlfriend will just dig a hole next to where my dog is buried.

The Garuda design seems to be on most of them so I assume it is a good luck symbol or that the Thais think it looks nice, but as you can see it has a 10baht handle on the lid

The coffins at the back have I assume fake mother of pearl inlaw in them and look quite fancy, sort of thing you could keep in your living room to brighten it up.

This one is the BigBoy prime Porky Worky Coffin, made out of proper wood from trees and carefully filled and polished to near perfection, yep all this one needs is a dead body and a bonfire, also with the size of this one you could also fit your wife/small wife/gik in there with you and pretend your an Egyptian

The normal small Thai sized coffins, probably a bit cramped for your average farang, and if your a touch overweight you just aint gonna fit in there very well so they aint gonna be able to close the lid as they parade you round the Temple, still aslong as the reason you are there is not from a Pattaya condo sky diving trick that went wrong an open coffin funeral should be ok.

A body-bag will do for me. A couple of rice-sacks taped together should do the trick.

the most impressing thing i saw in bangkok was chinatown: there is a seperate road for everything: a road where u only can buy shoes, a road for beans and, very bizarre, a whole road lined up with coffin shops, no, not coffee shops, coffin shops. so if anybody needs a thai coffin, go to this road...
btw. how can i post pics?

Dont wanna be buried here. I want to be buried back home. Maybe I need to look into getting the exact mechanism for that to happen in place.

The 'missus' is out at the moment, so I can't ask her, but my understanding was that this is the style of coffin used by the Chinese for burials, rather than Thai style cremations. Can anyone confirm this?

Family can do what they want with me, as someone said, a couple of rice bags would do the job.
On the subject of coffins, I think I paid for someones. We were on our way to Pattaya and stopped at some services. I went to use the ladies and while I was washing my hands a woman started talking to me and showing me photographs of corpses from road accidents, drownings, shootings etc. Then a selection of corpses in coffins. I gave her 150 baht and got out quick. So, the next time you go to a funeral think on, I could have possibley contributed to the casket

All these lovely polished coffins. Makes me think of my poor old mother-in-law. She killed her self by drinking a bottle of french polish

    She had a lovely finish!!!!!!!!!

Don't order one with a elephants head on the end though, they tend to come out a bit funny.

    Correct answer: Chinese
The 'missus' is out at the moment, so I can't ask her, but my understanding was that this is the style of coffin used by the Chinese for burials, rather than Thai style cremations. Can anyone confirm this?

    Chinese.

The Thai casket is for creamation. Poor peope may get a recycled one, ie used for the funeral but not burned.

Sorry, I was not intending to repost that photo, just comment. No experience with the quote.
I don't care what they do with me. I hope to be dead at the time creamation.

That is a worry I was reading a thread about a funeral and it said the old girl who had died was pronounced dead twice by her local doctor but recovered before they put her in the coffin

When my mate croaked a couple of years ago....I took his wife to a coffin shop in Pattaya Nua.
The shop lady insisted their coffins would be long enough for falang, but the widow was not convinced.
( Her husband had only been dead a few hours, so she wasn't being all that rational.)
Nothing would satisfy her, but that I lay down inside the bloody coffin.
Why just lying on the top wouldn't have done, I don't know.
The sales lady saw nothing strange in it at all....but I recalled the old saying "Only in Thailand"
She finished up getting a blue one, costing--if my memory serves me aright-- about 6000 baht.
