    Top of temples

    Top of temples

The most famous temples in Thailand have won the hearts of the faithful for their artistic beauty by the presence of a certain representation of the Buddha or sacred relics.

    1.Wat Phra Kaew, Bangkok

This temple, the most sacred of all, is home to the country's most revered Buddha, through which, monarchy, nations and religions are one. It is a dazzling mosaic facades, golden spiers and exceptional frescoes.

    2. Wat Phra That Dai Suthep, Chiang Mai

Perched atop a sacred mountain, this picturesque temple is revered by Thai Buddhists for its chedi (stupa) and the golden relic is enshrined. It is also a superb example of Lanna architecture (Northern Thailand) with Chiang Mai below.

    3. Wat Phra Si Ratana Mahathat, Phitsanulok

In a country of beauty lovers this temple is an important place of pilgrimage because of its resplendent Buddha, who radiates a divine radiance, accentuated by a stylish and finely crafted halo.

    4. What Pho, Bangkok

Wat Pho is the national repository of traditional massage, and even the Buddha (statue lying 46m long and 15m high) adopt a relaxed posture.

    5. Wat Phra Si Sanphet, Ayuthaya

The former capital of Thailand, Ayuthaya survives with an elegance that defies the laws of gravity: Wat Phra Si Sanphet stands the picturesque profile of its three tapered chedi characteristic of this period.

To view these five places, it is possible to make a "circuit of temples"

Start in Bangkok, visit the famous temples on the river: Wat Phra Kaew and Wat Pho.

Then make a day trip to Ayutthaya, the heart of an ancient kingdom where once gilded temples have become captivating ruins marked by time.

Do not miss the Wat Phra Si Sanphet. You can even visit the temple as a king, on an elephant!

Then take a train to Phitsanulok to honor the spectacular Buddha of Wat Phra Si Ratana Mahathat.

Then take a bus that will take you to Sukhothai to meditate amidst the stunning ruins of a kingdom which marked the beginnings of the golden age of Thailand. Wat Mahathat is incontestable. This ancient city is so great that it is advisable to visit it by bike.

Finally, take a bus to north, direction Chiang Mai to immerse yourself in the architecture of northern Thailand visiting the old town and the Wat Phra That Dai Suthep, which overlooks the city.

After this tour, the Thai Buddhism have no secrets for you!

4 weeks ago I had a day in Ayutthaya, it was great to see the ancient ruins, like a lot of people I've seen the modern/well looked after ones in BKK but the 14 century ones really are worth a view ..

    Cheers

Here's a pic I took at the top of the Wat Pra Wian Temple which has been in dispute regarding ownership for years. The Cambodian Flag still flies I believe:

Not so lovely as Wat Pra Kaew...
