Thread: Ratchada Lake - Bangkok

Me 'n' GoW decided to take a break from perusing soft furnishings and take a stroll around Lake Ratchada, seeing as it was a nice day.

Actually, it was a bit overcast when I took some of the pics, so I apologise in advance for the few that are not up to the usual high standards.

If you wander down from Asoke BTS you will soon reach the N. E. Gate.



Just inside is a list of what you can and can't do. You know, the usual stuff like 'No Guns', 'No Rock Concerts and so on.



There was a lovely fresh breeze blowing across the water which was welcome after the walk from Soi Cowboy.



Not many people know this, but there is an amplitheatre there. I was looking to see when the next production of Twelfth Night was going to be staged, but alas, there were no details to be found. We went and bought a Cornetto instead.

rather than walking it from Asok's bts stop, perhaps Queen Sirikit subway stop might be a tad nearer

Only 5 min (or less) from Asok BTS station.

The stage is covered, but the seating does form a small amplitheatre.

Farang. Luckily I had GoW on a lead, so she had to heel.

The modern office blocks and apartments make quite a nice backdrop.



The pathway is wide enough for Thais to wander aimlessly without causing too many problems for normal people. There is a seperate cycle track too.



Just near the amplitheatre there is a skate-boarding thingy, which was surprising. Not many people using it though.



There is a water park there as well, but someone had switched it off for the day.

Just along from the water park is a playground. I wanted to try the rides out but GoW wouldn't let me (miserable cow).



GoW thinks that this is a clock. Fek knows how she worked that out. I reckon it's a thank you to the Chinese for dragging their country out of the jungle, but I could be wrong.



Just along from the 'clock' is a big fountain. There was a chap doing some sort of Tai Chi beside the step, and a young Thai couple were canoodling just to the right of me as I took the picture.



In front of the main fountain is this one. Pretty cool I thought, but the piccy is more artistic than informative. Luckily you have me as a guide to explain all the crap.

Here is a shot of the whole fountain with a gold thingy in front of it. The photo isn't too good because the sun wouldn't move out of the way for me.



Young Matthew on Ajarn posted a picture from the park which I quite liked, so I took my own version of it. Not bad.



There were some more playground pieces of equipment after the fountain. These Thai kids seemed quite at home on this one.



There was another fountain in the south-west corner of the park which was pretty cool. Sadly, it wasn't on full power today.

From the south you can see all along the lake up towards Sukhumvit. I left the small branch in the picture just to annoy Skulldigger.




No one told me at the gate! How was I to know?



Strangely, I have never seen anyone take one of these babies out on to the lake.



The sun managed to ruin another shot. This is suposed to be of the big fountain with the gold thingy from the opposite side of the lake, but...



We walked up to the gate in the north-east corner and toddled of home via the Asoke BTS/MRTA footbrodge and underpass. Amazingly, GoW layed on the sofa and was sleeping like a baby in mere seconds!

It's a lovely park, so make an effort to check it out. And best of all, it's free.

Looks great MtD - thanks for that. It looks rather empty - does hardly anyone go there? Looks better then lumpini.

It is pretty quiet. We saw around 20 other people in the time that we were there.

One of the "Rules" is that you are not allowed to sit on the grass!

Went one day for a picnic...spread out the rug on the grass and was just opening the food when the security arrived in force telling us to move...

I discussed the sensibilty/stupidity of such a rule in a public park but they were unrelenting...said we could have a picnic on the path but not on the grass...Thai logic?...

so we packed up and drove along to Benja park beside Emporium and had our picnic there

Yes, they (some foreigners and Thais) were riding bicycle and some were walking along the park.

Klongy, I saw some people sat on the glass and no any words from a security guard who was around there.

why am I not surprised...

It's like parking your car...doesn't matter where you park security will always tell you to move it ...even a few centimeters right or left...
