    Chumphon's coastal views.

The last couple of weeks I've been having a gander along the Gulf coast, from Hua Hin down to Surat Thani. It was my first time in Hua Hin, and I came away with mixed feelings, few photos and a twat of a hangover. On the plus side about HH, I enjoyed the choice of foods and the lack of in your face girly bars. On the down side, I thought the beach was shite (covered in sunshades and deckchairs) and altogether to much like Blackpool - horse rides on the beach!

The rest of the photos from HH are family/ friends, apart from the classic don't put your fingers over the lens while you shoot.

After 3 days in Hua Hin, it was 3 days in Surat. Most noticible difference was the price of hotels. For 50 baht a night more in Surat, we had a pool, sauna and full gym as opposed to a room in HH. Then again, Surat is not a tourist destination.
Then we headed back up the coast to Chumphon, where we live, and the plan was to ride out to different beaches and stay in accomodation as and where we ended up. Cue the bloody rain. Most of the first days excursion was spent sheltering from it on the way to a resort we had not heard of. Being (fool)hardy we carried on regardless, only to arrive as it was going dark. Place looked nice, wooden Thai style accomodation [at] 500 bht a night seemed good value, so we sat in the outdoor restaurant and ordered up a bit of a seafood meal. The menu prices were by the gramme, and we saw no food being weighed. When the bill arrived I nearly choked, and decided the bastard owner was having no more cash off me, despite his rooms looking good. So back home (30 kms) and a new destination the following day.

The next couple of photos are taken over 2 visits to the same beach, the same beach also as Thaipom visited a week or so back.

These next few photos were taken south of Chumphon (54 km). This was a pretty tough place to get to, as the coast road is not completed, but well worth the effort. The amount of small islands in this area is amazing, and we saw nobody for hours. More to come in the next few days, weather permitting

    ^ The road there.

Nice, mmming and erring about whether or not to move to the coast for a year or two from the mountains of Issan, this has swayed me a bit more in the direction of sunning myself on the beach. After all, that's the reason I'm here, well that and cheap [at][at][at][at].

Yeah the photos look good but the mainland beaches aren't that good for swimming - pak meng is too muddy and shallow. Off the coast the beaches are much better - if you haven't gone yet, do it. Also the waterfalls in the hills are great too.

I loved living in Trang.....I meant to say, Trang is really crap, especially for farangs, Phuket is much better..
