Mad weekend in Koh Chang, Having it large

Drove down there t'other weekend for a break from Beirut.

Hired a truck off a dodgy thai bloke for 800 baht a day. Had to pay a 500 baht fine on the drive down because the sods tax was out of date and I didn't have a proper licence. It came with a heavy metal pole under the seat for free though.

Ferries leave about every hour from 'Centrepoint' and take about an hour to get to the island. 500 baht return for 2 passengers and the car.

Found a resort to relax at for a couple of days called 'Cliff Resort' at Kai Bae beach....

    Beach hut:

Spent the day doing fvck all at the clifftop pool...

    Nice view from the pool...

Then drove up to Whitesands beach which seems to be the livliest and had a few restuarants set out on the sand... There is a beach further south where all the backpackers head towards which might get livlier I reckon but I'm too old and boring for that nonsense now.... Even have a disco down that way called 'Vitamin Disco' which sounds very healthy...

    Scran at night...

There are some good roads for over the hilly bits ....

Next day lazed about on the beach and went to some floating shopping arcade that I can't remember the name of...

Resort next to the shopping bit....

Nice place to do nothing and watch the sunsets...

And be romantic on the bed with a girl of your choosing...

    Next day was elephants...

    The end

I think that's it... We arrived without pre-booking so probably paid over the odds. 5000 baht per night but was probably only worth around 3000 per night.

Next report might be a bit more sleazy... Planning to go again this weekend with some lads for a fishing trip if I don't have to go to work first...

There are enough beer bars around the place for some debauchery.

How comes it's 500baht to take the car across to Koh Chang? If I remember correctly I paid like 20baht per head and maybe 100baht for the car although I seem to recollect that it was free.

Because you probably did it the proper way whereas I just gave my money to the first scam merchant that approached me...

    No prices given on website

Wow, this is a first in the hospitality arena. No rates published unless you opt in with your details and presumably they reply by email. Not even Dara Dhevi would be so bold.

Surely there were alternatives? They really are behaving as if they were the only joint on the island...rock on the recession!

Nice website, even if the amount of contact details demanded is laughable, anyhow I am guessing 3 -4 star property if indeed it has been rated?

I have been back since and I won't be stopped going again motherfucker....

Tried to ring that hotel up before travelling there but they lied that they were full or something ... Anyway, it wasn't worth 5 grand for what it was... Bit shabby round the edges but nice enough.

Yes, the car goes free and it's something like 120 baht a head. A pretty good deal!

Koh Chang's good too. Personally I like White Sands Beach because there's lots going on... live music at Sabay Bar and Oodies Place and so on. Sad that it's developing too fast though.

Great photo essay from the OP. Talk about R and R!

And the village on stilts over the water at the end of the island is Bang Bao and your picture of the dark pavilions there is of Buddah View, a really nice guest house.

You make me miss Koh Chang. Haven't been there for months.
