We went to sleep and the next morning we were up with the roosters. The girls prepared breakfast before we set out. The breakfast was made with ingredients we picked up in the jungle the day before. Mostly fish and jungle veggies.

This is a Karen delicacy. It is made with the fresh fish excrement from yesterday and some type of herbs. Only mountain fish from clean rivers are good to eat as all the shit in the other waterways could make you sick. It was extremely bitter and gritty, with just a dash of salt. Hey, why not right?

After breakfast we set off for Chiang Mai. This time was a pleasant journey with no problems. The girlfriend decided to take the bus so I had an even better ride.

The road in some places was washed out. Can you see the boy down there?

I don’t know what they were doing but there was about 4 of them and they tried to hide when we looked over the edge.

It was a long way down from here.

Take a rod next time - could be fun - the fish you are holding is one of the barb family and they go like "shit off a shovel" on light spinning or fly tackle !

We stopped on one of the higher peaks before pushing on finally reaching CNX early evening. All in all it was a great trip that I should be repeating once the water levels go down.

Yeah, but they went with the story and I didn't really think they were good enough to enter anyway.

I've done the loop CM - Hot - Mae Sariang - Mae Hong Song - Pai - CM a few times on me ol' honda dream. The ride from CM to Hot is a long stretch of boring dual carriageway but once you turn off at Hot heading towards Mae Sariang you hit the mountains and the great views start.

Quite right. Driving to Hot is boring. That the only stretch I can't stand.
