If you are interested in the history of Thailand and love a road trip, definitely put this great day out at the top of your list.
I am usually coming from Bangkok and do this trip in the order below.
First off is the Nong Ratchawat archaeological site in Ang Thong. ฤ pre-historical burial site which is covered but obviously best to do this early in the morning. There is no entrance fee and lots of parking.

Next off for some lunch at one of my favourite spots in Thailand. There is an array of food but my favourite is the, Pad Thai Geaw Grob; which is basically Pad Thai but instead of noodles it has crispy wong tong. In Thai - ผัดไทยเกี๊ยวกรอบ

Next is the U Tong National Museum. Recently renovated, it has excellent displays and artifacts and all in English and Thai. It is currently free to enter but I am told this will change at some point.

A Life Cafe & Gallery is a great place to wind down, have a coffee and think/ discuss about what you just saw in the museum. The blueberry cheese cake is really good here.

Lastly, if you are up for it, a small hike up some stairs trail to the top of a small hill where once was a temple. It has a great view over looking U Tong and will actually be able to go to the place you just learnt about in one of the museum display. There is limited parking by the trailhead but if it is busy, you can park nearby.
