So long as the daughter's photographs are accepted by the over-officious Aussies, that will be it for this thread for a while. My next passport renewal will be 2026 when my second UK (ex-European ) passport expires.

Although... there is the impending menace of maybe having to help the wife renew her Aussie passport that expired last year. This is something that I'm resisting since I now have hassle-free overseas travel while she's confined to her Thai passport.

You do realise that there is no correct English spelling as the word is a transliteration from กะเทย?

Just under two weeks after I submitted the application for my daughter's Aussie passport at the Australian Embassy in Bangkok, I've received an email saying that the passport pic has been knocked back. It just goes to show that even the most meticulously planned operations can go awry.

The photo was OK, apart from...

PRINT QUALITY – Dotted appearance, repeated patterns across the image, lack of fine detail and continuous tone across the image, lines or patches across the image. Passport photos must be of high quality, printed by continuous tone dye sublimation on heavy weight photographic paper (200gsm minimum), and not produced with an inkjet printer.
The British accepted this awful photo without question and an exact same copy currently sits in the daughter's UK passport, but anyway.

While still in Korat I had preempted this eventuality and returned to the photo shop in the hope that they still had the digital copy of the photo on their camera... but no, not stored after three months apparently, and the photo was taken over a year ago (yes, it should have been taken within the last six months but the over-officious Aussies hadn't picked up on that).

So anyway, the daughter had a new photo taken and I copied the digital copy to the cloud. This I emailed off today and hopefully the daughter should receive the new Aussie passport by post in a couple of weeks.

^ To be fair she did look a bit odd, the magenta cartridge had run out!

No, in fact it was professionally printed on photographic paper that was perfectly good enough for the British passport officials.

    It does make you think.

To be fair they're probably less fussy now that they can't be used to travel anywhere.

You need some kind of basic guidance on humour. Your gags simply do not work.

    Tip 1:

Humour needs at least a strand of truth to be funny.

Since BREXIT, Britons have had to use their passport to access more countries, not fewer countries.

    Joke simply does not work.

My daughter's still finding her way in life and used to come out with some pretty awful jokes.

I told her that a prerequisite for a joke is that it's funny. She gets that now, at the age of 12.

Anyway, the UK still isn't doing too bad in terms of passport power. It's in the same rank as Ireland, but at least we don't have to put up with that awful tinkly tinkly music every time we go home.

The Henley Passport Index appears to be the standard. USA is in Rank 6, interestingly enough.

And anyway, who'd want to be French or German?

That would work well... if delivered by a hard worker.

    Edit: a worker

    ^ It doesn't work because it's a British passport.

And if football rankings were included, Ireland would be somewhere below Chad.
