    A Few Days in Pattaya

Just spent a few days at the very long named Centara Grand Mirage Resort in everyone's favourite family city of Pattaya.

Here it is, not my pic. We arrived by car and not by airplane.

Check in was from 3pm but when we arrived the room wasn't ready which was pretty annoying.

The room and balcony were lovely. Facing the sunset. One of the few reasons I wanted to try something different to the Hard Rock Hotel was for a bigger balcony. Nice to sit outside in the sun while I wait for everyone else to wake up..

    The room:

The bed would have easily fit the 3 of us but daughter decided she wanted to sleep on the chair.

We decided to eat at the hotel for dinner but the service was terrible. so we left.

The next day we were ushered into a room for breakfast and it was like being at a business conference. The food was fine but it the room was shite. Apparently there are 2 places for breakfast, 1 - the shit one and another nice place.

    Shit breakfast room:

Just after breakfast an email pinged into my inbox asking me how my stay was going..... We ended up meeting the manager and explaining everything. They offered us an upgrade etc. but that's more hassle than it's worth.

The next day at the newly discovered nice breakfast place we get the full VIP treatment.

After breakfast we'd trundle off to find some sun loungers in the shade and spend the days swimming, eating and drinking. At 170thb for a small beer I made sure I came prepared.. despite the notices of a 500thb fine for bringing your own food/drink in.

I'd order 1 draft Singha and then top it up throughout the day.

The outside area was full of mini-pools and slides and a lovely lazy river with waterfalls. Daughter made some friends pretty easily so went off with them quite a lot. There's also a pretty big kids club that they can go in and out in for 350thb a day. Just before we left she did some ziplining thing.

Some pics from around the place:

Verdict: Lovely place. great room, kid loved the facilities. Service was shite (but luckily Glass House is nearby). Probably better options in the Pattaya area.

I'd like to see what morning looks like
Don't wanna drink pint after pint
I wanna wake up without feeling sick
    But I can't cuz I'm a drug-abusing alcoholic

15 or 16 years ago we went there with the kids, just after opening. They loved it, as you we were always at the "waterpark pool". Not much more to say as you go to these places for the kids.

My daughter loved it there. Is it still about 9000 baht a night?
I think we had a club room with free all you can drink cocktails for a couple of hours

    Mate, great thread.

We've stayed at a few of the water park hotels, but ours were more ... *cough* ... Budget ones

Will look at this one next time we visit.

apart from the elephant decals its actually really nice and the rooms are great.
    good thread.
had many happy weekends there with kids, parents etc. that lazy river is ace too.

sorry to hear the service is dipping, its always been fine, and they usually are late on the check ins. guess people want to make the most of the time in the pools.

dont think ive ever had dinner there, though the cake shop is good value
    we won it at wemberlee
we on it in gay paree...

I stayed there a couple of months back.

I was thinking of doing a thread about how shite it was for the cash spent.

Stayed a month or 2 back with the family. Got a club suite with a couple of bedroom and massive balcony for about 17 or 18K a night.

For that price, you got a shitty club room, with shitty food and a shitty drinks selection. There were actually 2 clubrooms (1 adult and 1 that allowed kids in) but the adult one was closed for some reason, so you had to hang out with kids when having a pre dinner drink.

Kids enjoyed the pool, zip line thing and generally mucking around.

Felt I didn't get my monies worth concerning the club facilities. Other than that, the kids had a blast.
    Black diamonds? I shit 'em.

Yeah it wasn't worth the money.

M'ehh, OK as a treat for the kids- but that's all. I went there to visit a good mate (and their 2 kids) a few years back. I quite like the 'lost city' theme, and the waterworks are obviously fun for the kiddies. But the cost of drinks, mediocre food and so on- no thanks. Pattaya offers way better value than that.

"big kids club that they can go in and out in for 350thb a day." ... is that something that non-hotel guests can do, or is it an extra option for hotel guests only?

I'm more curious about what the 'going in and out in' involves in the first place.

We paid cash on the last day because we'd already checked out but if you're looking for a kids club in central Pattaya Haborland is a better option.
