Some workers showed up at the empty land next door today.

looks like their setting up a work camp. Making a real racket in the process.

I love these old houses around Bangkok right in some of the best areas. I get the feeling these will all be disappearing it’s a real shame as they give the city such character.

It's weird how a short walk from the BTS you can be in a place like this. I walk through one to play football at Polo which must be an expensive area.

Come off at Surasak and, apart from a couple of apartment blocks, loads of the houses behind there are (were?) like this. I'm surprised they haven't been bought out for swanky high rise condos, given the area.

I hope there will always be pockets of the old original houses dotted around Bangkok. I feel it’s part of the charm but with prices of land so high I can’t see them surviving.

On my last day of test and go today assuming my test comes back negative.

Just in time really. At least I can keep busy watching life on the river.

There is a ton of activity on the river today. All the barges are anchoring in front of the hotel.

I took a walk over the drawbridge yesterday afternoon to try and check out a small shipyard but with no luck.

I just got a few pictures from the bridge.

I was hoping to get a closer look at the lumberyard to the left in my picture.

Could be they are waiting for the tide to change. Much easier I would suspect to head up the river in high tide.

I did end up back in a bit of a dicey neighborhood and ally system.

I don’t think the locals see many farang around so I was nervous to go in to deep.

Could be although this is the first time I have seen it since I’ve been here.

Could be a log jam at their unloading destination maybe.

It’s fun when they start moving around at 3am.

maybe being on the river wouldn’t be so great long term.

There will never be a better time to be in Bangkok or in Thailand in general. The lack of tourists, mongering scum and humanity is simply brilliant.

If you plebs are sitting at home waiting for Crono to die down before heading back all i can say is this.

Tough shit cry babies, the time is now.

indeed it is terence. we have just booked our return flights and look forward to a quieter and more peaceful thailand, and to a country where the restaurants, businesses and services actually welcome customers as opposed to treating them in an offhand manner and too often with disdain, which was becoming more and more common pre covid, especially in areas that hosted a lot of foreigners.

a reset has long been overdue, and not only in thailand.

Made it back home to Bantak after my 5 days in Bangkok.

After an unusual situation with the hotel concierge where he wanted to come along with the driver I ended up flying back. Out of fear I’d end up broke naked and face down in a ditch.

Here comes the family 15 minutes late after stopping for noodles.

It great to be back home after two years away.

I think chock-dee was a bit confused but seems pretty happy now.

Is that the Anantara? It looks like the place I stayed with my family about 20 years ago, at which time, if I remember correctly, it was a Marriott resort.

Correct Shutree I thought it would be great if I had to do 7 days in my room but with the test and go it was a bit of a hike to get to sky train and other places.

It’s still in great shape for being so old but the whole place was pretty much mothballed.
