    Wife and dogs' sandbox adventure

My wife has beaten me back to Thailand and taken the dog as well. I haven't seen much about the Phuket sand box and wanted to share their experience.

So far it seems hands down better than spending even one week in a hotel somewhere.

They flew from JFK to Singapore then a short flight to Phuket.

Getting the paper work for Chock-dee just about killed me. So much harder than any of the covid related stuff.

That first 18 hour flight sounds like it was pretty brutal. Luckily there weren't to many people on the flight.

    And finally arriving in Singapore.

Enjoying the window seat and island views.

I miss these scenes so much after being away for almost two years. It will be a long 3-4 months until I head back to join them.

Once they arrived she got some help from a nice worker with her bags and headed for the tests and immigration.

Soon they were in the van headed for the hotel.

Then into the room waiting for the first test results before they could go out.

They put a ribbon on your arm until your test result comes back then your free to go out.

Then time for lunch outside. You really can't beat being able to go out almost right away.

Then down to the beach. It looks so nice and quiet around but she said there was still a lot of trash on the beach.

And best of all hardly any people around.

Thanks for the pics and thread! Looks like it's adventures of the dog (chok dee) - very cute.

Situation (sandbox) looks better than JP's quarantine suite in BKK. No offence, JP.

Yes it is a great question. He didn't pee or poo for the entire flight.

But did pop at the airport in route to an outside area where he had his first pee in a loooong time.

Thank god no one was around.

    Thank to all.

It does seem to me more desirable than a hotel quarantine.

But as we know things are changing often with the rules so it's difficult to decide which path to take.

We chose Phuket really because of having the dog along

No offense taken Katie. It is by far better in Phuket but as we know, life is all about timing and circumstances. We would have done the Sandbox option if we had a way home with all our luggage. At the time domestic travel was basically stopped and to try and get someone to drive down to get us would be a big ask. We had 6 extra large suitcases, plus 2 carry on's. Imagine trying to move all that around trying to get from Phuket to Lampang.

Yeah the luggage alone is tricky. Not to mention the long drive ahead back to Tak.

We did seven days in a hotel room, and it was not fun.
I think it has emotionally scarred me for life.

The dog looks pretty chill. Not sure I'd fancy 18 hours on a plane with my French Bulldog!

All true my wife did a great job dealing with the dog on that journey.

I'm not to sad to have missed that part.

Daughter wants to come and visit me from Kalifornia when all this quarantine nonsense is done with, and she wants to bring Coco , the cutest little weiner dog. (she goes nowhere without it)
What is the process of bring it here on a pane, and then taking it back with her when she returns?
The sooner you fall behind, the more time you have to catch up.

Interesting Mike... do you know what size is the largest dog you can take on a plane without having to go in the hold?

It is an enormous amount of paperwork. I'm not sure I would go through it for a holiday unless she planned to stay several months.

I think for in cabin it depends on size.

Chock-dee is over the 7 kg limit for most airlines that is why we choose Singapore air as they still allow ESA dogs. My wife was able to get an ESA letter online for like $75

You will need a few documents for Thailand, an entry permit, proof of vaccinations, a USDA certificate from an approved vet and a microchip #,

Transit through Singapore was harder. Make sure your layover doesn't exceed 4 hours or there will be more hoops to jump through

The documents for transit are: Same as above and you need a transshipment license that you get online and is a total pain but I did manage to do it all just in time.

A lot of the stuff is time sensitive just like the PCR tests so that plays into your planning as well.

Let me know if you need any more info. I probably left out something.

Luckily for once traveling from the US they still have the emotional support animal loophole and if that is used there is no limit.

But as I found out on most airlines it 7 kg or 15 pounds including a soft crate. You would need to have a very small dog.
