    The afternoon passed without pictures.
I went to the local Bangkok Bank where I closed an old account. Because, obviously, you can only close an account at the same branch where you opened it.
Whilst there in Lotuthith we passed an AIS shop selling sim-based home routers. Now I had visited my local AIS store twice to ask about home routers after I canned my True router for being completely useless, the people there were repeatedly disinterested, uninformed and borderline moronic, half talking to you whilst keeping their eyes trivial games on their phones, at work. Here in That Phanom there was a mature lady who could answer a couple of simple of questions, like can I have one and how much? I walked out with a router which I later plugged in at home and it works fine. Although, Murphy's Law applies, two days after getting back a 3BB truck came down the soi to tell us that they would bring fibre the last 1.5km to us if a few neighbours also signed up, which they did.
My other mission that afternoon was to visit a Thai friend. A very smart and energetic woman she has a new project involving growing marijuana. This is a venture with American partners to see if export quality CBD oil can be produced here. She is very well-informed, enthusiatic and the sort of person who can push through Thai bureaucracy through sheer force of personality, knowing exactly what she is doing and not taking any crap from anybody in officialdom. In a nice way. She has all the necessary approvals and a first test crop has been successful. I wouldn't bet against her. That was an interesting chat.

The following morning we said our farewells to the Mekhong.

It was an uneventful drive back to Udon Thani. We stopped there for a very late lunch. One of those Japanese buffet things which I find disappointing but it is more exciting for the gf. I thought I had some pics of mediocre sushi, which I don't. So there we are, another short break over. It was nice to revisit that area, I like it there.

Looks like you had a successful trip this time, do you not fancy a longer break?

I mised this at the time. I do fancy longer trips and went alone to UK and Penang in June/July. For other travel, the gf works and we have dogs to house, so it is a question usually of getting her daughter on a break from uni to coincide with a time when the gf can escape work. The daughter is okay to house and dog sit for a couple of days, although it isn't then much of a holiday for her.

More trip reports coming up once I wrestle the photo-posting to the ground.
