    Koh Chang

So my wife and I ventured down to stay on Koh Chang for 4 days. My wife found a newer resort and booked the rooms for us. We arrived and have a private pool villa ocean front. Driving to the resort the area is really quite depressed here making it actually inconvenient to come. It used to be you landed and got in your room then went off and found some good restaurants, did some snorkeling, came back rested and then went out at night. Not now. It is sadly empty and everything is either closed or boarded up with signs "For sale" or "For Rent". We are staying at a resort that has 18 Villas, my wife and I are the only ones staying. The upside is we are receiving over the top service and I have become friends with the Bellmen/Waiter/Gardener/Pool guy/Facility manager.

I will post a few pics soon. It is still is such a beautiful island but like most places here in Thailand and all over the world, Covid has taken its toll.

It still remains my favorite. As much as Thailand has developed tourist areas, Koh Chang remains generally the same. My first visit here was in 2005.

Was like that where we stayed last weekend.

I told my guests that we're VIP and the whole pace is closed off just for us.

    Few Drone pics

Had some time and showed the "Facility manager do all Guy", Feng how to fly my drone.

Few pics from the flight. My drone needs a recalibration and camera re set. Will have to do it when I get home. Video quality not very crisp. ALso need to do a long overdue firmware update.

Interesting rock formations underwater. Might be put in place for erosion or to make a snorkeling area for fish habitat

I waded out to the deeper water to do some snorkeling. Not an easy walk stepping over rocks and avoiding spiny urchins. I didn't bring my good water shoes.

Hotel. It has 5 Ocean front villas. All but the one we are in are vacant. Feng says that they are expecting some people later today.

Feng and I sat for about 45 minutes at the pool bar talking. He was sharing his experience. He left Pattaya area in 2019 because he said that there were just too much crazy tourists and the Chinese people were extremely rude. He took the job on the island and relocated to this hotel. He helped build some of the Villas. Then Covid hit and he said the first Covid lock down about 70% of the businesses remained open and people working them. He said after the 2nd lock down only 20 to 25% remain open and most people packed up and either sold their business or just abandoned them and went home.

I took a drive around 11am as I wanted to get an Iced Cappuccino. I drove about 10km and gave up. Not one coffee shop open. I did see about half a dozen tore up looking tat'd westerners looking to leg it out.

Very nice pictures! Thank you for sharing. The hotel looks very nice.
Kho Chang is definitely on my bucket list as soon as we come back. If you don't mind sharing the name of the Hotel, I would not mind staying there. It looks nice.

    You mean Koh Kood?

Koh Kood was better accommodations primarily as the beach villa you could walk right out your door to the beach cove and go swim and snorkel. The big downside to Koh Kood are the damn sandflies. While I was bitten about 5 times they do not show up for a few days later and they are quite itchy and if you scratch them they get big and actually hurt. I saw some poor visitors that were basically attacked and had big red welts all over their bodies. They have a liquid concoction they offer you to spray all over your body but it smells horrific. I doubt I would ever return there because of the sandflies. They attack you at the best time to be out on the beach and water.

There are outstanding islands where you wouldn't have to worry about them.

Koh Chang still remains my favorite get away island with easy access.

Better than a retarded take. You are one thick SOB skidmark. Still think Pattaya is not polluted? Pollution is your posting on Thai topics.

Yes, it appears to be labelled with a few names.

A pity about the sand flies, is just the hotel you stayed at or an island wide feature?

Unfortunately it's an entire island deal. Nowhere to hide from them. They love to attack midday and are microscopic things. You really can't see them. Its not like mosquitoes that you can swat and fan away. So you are almost forced to either lather yourself up in the repellent or stay covered up all the time which defeats the purpose of hanging out on a beach resort.

Yeah, it's a seasonal thing all over - surprised ohno has escaped.

Samed gets them really bad at certain times of year.

The old school mossie coils work up to a point.

Yeah. They are brutal little things. About the size of a pin head and you can't feel them biting you unlike Skeeters.

We went a bit off season because of them but they were still a menace to most guests. The resorts have warning signs all over.

I saw this one foreigner gal that had been totally assaulted by them. She must have had 50 bites or more. My 5 bites on my leg and arm were enough for me. My wife got 2 on her back. Great trip, beautiful island, not going back

And no, ohno, they don't stay at any particular hotel.
