What Does “Authentic” Tourism Really Mean?

A bit of interest – The Hill Tribe Human Zoos

An interesting video (14 minutes) concerning how the residents actually feel concerning their lot-in-life. Believable or not it does provide a recent overview.

Before watching, ask yourself, how would you feel if you were one of the hill tribers on display selling goods, day in, day out?

Also provides a mini-interview with a principal hill-triber post Covid and their current status during the ongoing pandemic.

I see the forum gremlins now punish putrid punctuators by messing up quotation marks in their thread titles.

I'm not sure anyone will ever have seen the term 'authentic tourism' before.

That probably means that it doesn't mean an awful lot.

    'Term I just invented.'

    'What does it mean?'

Could work in the games room, I guess.

Delighted that tourists are coming. No tourists = no trade = no money, etc.

Whatever you, I, or the videographer want it to mean.

To the videographer it seems to be simply seeing people living their lives as they would do without tourists. I also like that kind of tourism and have done it myself in different countries but I have also done the more standard "tourist" thing and have enjoyed that just as much. They are all valid forms of tourism, IMO.

    Each to their own.

    Indeed, Nev.
As any sub-form of tourism can interpreted differently through contrasting eyes.
