    Koh Samed

Just had 4 days on Koh Samed.

After dropping the dog at a Doggy Hotel we drove the 3hours to get to the pier (). 100bht for parking and 250bht each for a shared boat to take us directly onto the resorts beach.

20minutes later we were at the resort on Ao Phai Beach.

Samed Villa Resort. approx 3500 a night for a "deluxe" bungalow.

Room was roomy and we were all happy when there was a 3rd bed.

Then it was straight to the beach for a beer and dinner.

this was lovely. I had it twice.

..and then we spent the next few days on the beach.

    Breakfast View

The waves on Ao Phai were pretty brutal and it was quite rocky but daughter enjoyed surfing into shore for most of the day. Lost my glasses and the daughters goggles when one wave took us by surprise....

The beaches either side were calmer.

    Speaking of which...

We stopped for lunch at a place called Jeps. Big place, lots of backpackers led on the floor by the tables which was a bit odd. The food sucked.

    There's always a swing...

...and you just can't keep saying no to hair braiding...

    ..or ice cream...

Best holiday we've had I reckon. Already planning to go again in February.

Total cost about 15k for 3 people + replacing my glasses ans her goggles...
I'd like to see what morning looks like
Don't wanna drink pint after pint
I wanna wake up without feeling sick
    But I can't cuz I'm a drug-abusing alcoholic

Shit food, backpackers, rip tides, a hotel view of a beach full of sunbeds and 15,000 baht for 4 nights...

To be fair it does sound better than a holiday back home, with 23 hours a day of it spent on TD.

^ Some of us don't have to do a school run at Christmas, or spend hours assembling cheap Chinese bicycles

The stabilizers are a bit flimsy.

That would definitely be a bit odd. Off 'til next year now.

Though, would be preferable to a weight-watchers run.

I'm ON holiday pikey, chilling in the hotel, watching The Grinch before heading out for a Balti.

He reminds me a lot of you with your nastiness and grouchiness, derailing posters holiday threads and gifting kids wonkily built bicycles

Place was full of sandflies and a huge rubbish dump on the other side of the island when I last went with shit roads and no nightlife after midnight.Well overpriced that island.

Gimme Koh Chang, heck give me Koh Larn over Koh Samet, if the extra distance is the hurdle

Who wants or needs nightlife? It's proximity to BKK is the draw.

Its a 3 hour drive from Bangkok.... Then the ferry trip.

You could fly to many better destinations in less than that time

We had a day trip to Koh Samed a few years ago and I rhoufh it was nice. It was worth it just for the excitement of the ferry trip for the daughter - of course no great shakes for an old seadog like meself.

I concur, a third bed is great for holidays - we're currently 3 to a bed in the UK and it sucks, although is probably worse for the other 2!

Luigi, I'm also 'holidaying' in the UK and spending stupid amounts of time on this silly forum... a combination of jet lag, shite weather and an excuse to get away from the extended family. I tell them I've got work to do.

Armstrong, I see your daughter has started doing that Thai V thing with her fingers for photos. My daughter tried that on but I managed to beat it out of her.

I couldn't think of anything else bad about the place so added that

Having a look back at your pics, some great ones with the nipper too; the sea looks nice and clean and the beach too.
I just can't believe thats your best ever holiday in Thailand so have tried to think of my personal favourites and I'd go with-

1- Chartered James Bond superyacht cruise around Samui and Koh Phanghan
2- Ao Nang, Krabi, Railay Beach and 4 beach tour
    3- Pattaya lads weekender
    4- Bangkok lads weekender
    5- Phuket lads weekender
    6- koh Kood family hol
7- Koh Chang and elephant bathing family hol
8- Patong and Koh Phi Phi family hol
9- Patong and Phan Nga and James Bond island family road trip
10- Bangkok to Mukdahan all night bus ride and visa trip

    61- Koh Samet family hol

As a relaxing beach holiday it was great. I'm sure a superyaught cruise is brilliant but not with a 5 year old who want to play in the waves!

Driving to the airport - checking in am hour before - flying 2 hours - taxi from airport to hotel just seems like a lot of effort for a 4 day break.

...driving to Hua Hin on 26th for 3 days....
