A lovely walk around Mueang Phrae with my Point n Shoot.

Finding meself in lovely Phrae for a few day, I was up at the crack o' Lulu and out for a bit o' exploring.

Stick yer namby-pamby GPS up yer dill-hole. This is an oldfashioned walk for real men.

    Found me Lulumobile.

Mainly temples and cracking me skull off the underside of bridges, this one.

Walking through one of the Old City gates, like main Northern towns, the old city has an ancient wall and moat encircling it.

Which I always find quite lovely, really.

Coulda been me morning Yabaa, but there did seem to be quite a bit of eye-balling going on in the temple grounds.

    Nice pics, cheers.

Quite like Phrae. A bit quiet but very peaceful and laid back.

    Nice ol' spot.

Oddly enough behind this I seemed to walk on to some private land, and wary of mines, boobytraps and anyother type of maiming device a country Thai might use to deter people from his territory I stumbled across a driving range.

    Driving range/restaurant/bar.

Wonder how many drunken fights there have been over who can drive the ball the farthest at 1am.

Being quite Thai it appeared to be open, but completely devoid of anybody working there.

Prolly up there sleeping of the previous night's drinking/fighting.

Lulu leaves this encounter 40 baht worse off.

Tempted to give it a whirl, but there was a funeral 1 few meters away.

    You ain't seen me, right.

Or whatever that Fast Show sketch is.

    Ohh.... ello.

    Pretty damn cheap.

Promised to come back in the car tomorrow, which may or may not be broken.

Think Sybil got released from this place a few days ago.

There was a chant of Ant..... Ant..... Ant.... White Knighting...... echoing off the walls.

Can climb up on the city walls and have a wee nose in. Didn't look too bad.

Still, as they say, better out than in.

While not a fully licensed town planner, I may have picked a different spot for the radio tower.

Interesting, if possibly self-glorified, museum of the Free Thai movement that covertly resisted the Japanese and aided the allies in WW2. Set up and run by the family of one of the heros.

Catching up with Ol' Matey from the Wat:

    We all need sustenance.

Might as well head to the pool then.

As there's fok all else to do in this place.

    Cheers.

    Yeah, it's lovely and quaint.

    And also very boring.

Probably not a bad place if you've got yer off-road bikes etc out here.

Found a 'steakhouse' with 5 customers around 9pm last night.

Which appeared to be the hippest go-to place in town as everywhere else was shut up and sleeping.

Good pics, just rode through yesterday, ridden through dozens of times but never stopped. Will have to spend a day there sometime. A quick hotel review when you're done would be nice. Enjoy!

Should have given us a shout Lulu, could have stayed at Bogon Mansions.

Bars are next to the bus station if you get bored, and take the 4030 road (signposted Amphur Long) 200 metres after Big C for restaurants in the evening.

    ^ Coolio. Cheers.

^^ Not that I recall, but was mainly looking down for ankle-snapping footpath sinkholes and the such.

    Poomthai Gardens, I think.

    1k p/n. Standard kinda place.

The balcony is nice, realy quiet place. Pool is good. Hasn't been invaded by The Chin yet, or anyother customers by the looks of things.

You're not gonna write home about the breakfast, to say the least

but at the ungodly hour I've got to get up for MMII to go to work the only thing I can digest is either Montclair or Caffeine.

    Which is served as such:

with respect, a picture of an unmade bed, an omelette that has seen better days and a coffee machine hardly warrant the moniker "top pictures"

I was mainly refering to the knackered old metal boat that hadn't been weighed in for scrap.

Looks like a relic from WW2.

Amazing how you see the Thai monuments around the kingdom dedicated to WW2 with the English translated signage on.

Do the locals know anything about them and WW2?
