    A tourist view of Bangkok

In Nov 2018 I visited Bangkok with my wife. A photo thread is overdue. But the months since our return was packed with developments of SpaceX technology and my mind was otherwise occupied. But here it is finally.

    I remember this quote

But the coffee has only one thing going for it. It does contain caffeine. Eggs vomit inducing, even the boiled eggs, it must be their supplier. Scrambled eggs swimming in water. Fried eggs were rubber. Otherwise the hotel was nice, staff friendly, nice room.

The Krathong floated by the Hotel was impressive. They floated it on the river later. Initially I thought it is plastic but it was banana leaves heavy waxed.

We skipped the hotel celebrations and went to Lumpini Park.

BTW I have some pictures of people. Asked them and they agreed. But I am still hesitant to post them in the forum, what do you think?

Including small children, where I am most hesitant.

Krathongs for sale. Fortunately mostly natural materials. When I was there about 40 years earlier all plastic and styrofoam base were the new fashion.

^^ I don't see any harm in it.

Not sure if you remember Bobcock and Bustak, they had amazing photo threads full of portraits of locals.

Interesting to see this thread, cheers.

^ Lumphini is really cool at LK, Just thinking, it must have been 10 years and 2008 since I last went there for LK. How time flies.

Sadly I can't see any of the images in this post, but can view the OP, no problem.

I upload them from my computer, no link. They should be hosted locally on the TeakDoor server.

Just tried it on another browser (Firefox) thatI'm not logged in on. Same VB message.

You're not using Firefox by any chance.

If so, try it on chrome.

I remember Bobcock well. Best photographer on the forum. OK a few pics of people, first added from Loy Krathong.

Note the cell phone at the right, that's the mother.

    Some food

Food was generally delicious in the small roadside restaurants. I did miss the real street food from 40 years ago.

This was prepared in the front, open to the street but served inside.

Delicious crispy the way I like it.
    A tourist view of Bangkok-food-preparing-4-jpg

Pineapple rice. I ordered it for the photo but ordered it again later because it was absolutely delicious. Owner of the restaurant must have been a head waiter in an upscale restaurant in a previous life. British, with Thai wife.

Tuna at a small foodstall at a pier of the River Taxis. Very good.

Wat Pho and Grand Palace. Did not enter the Grand Palace. Lines too long and my ability to walk was quite limited. Have a better pain killer now.

Much was closed due to renovation. The lying Buddha building was open.

Glad you like it. There is more coming. I just don't like to dump them all at the same time. In the mean time a link to an old thread I did way back. Pictures from slides I did app. 1974.

https://teakdoor.com/bangkok-forum/75...ay-market.html (Old Slides Bangkok Sunday Market)

Some here may remember it but not everybody. You were not around at TeakDoor at the time. You may enjoy them. I think I will mix some of the old ones into the weekend market part of last years pictures.

I got a foot massage. Used to love the full Thai massage. But no longer due to my back problems. Too risky and painful as well.

In contrast the old Sunday market near the Grand palace. Times have changed.

I was told they are ground up and used as spice in soups

Enough space to fly the kites there.

I love this photo even out of focus

I would not fight about this. You may be right, not sure any more. Edit: My wife confirms, it was salmon.

Was busy again, there will be more soon.

One of the first places I visited here was the weekend Market. TO it was on the site of Sanam Luang, when it was being moved to Jatujak district there was an uproar. It was so far out of town for many back then..
