    Short trip to Bangkok

Took a short vacation from Khon kaen to Bangkok recently to stay at the Vie Hotel https://www.viehotelbangkok.com/. I had a "free" night to use up as part of having the accor plus card (http://www.accorplus.com/en/other) and recently they had a 40% sale + breakfast so I booked 3 nights for me and the wife at the Vie hotel for 6600 baht.
    The bad news
About 3 weeks before they emailed to say that during my stay they would be renovating the lobby area which would now be on floor 12. Also despite checking in online the day before leaving and receiving an email stating I could check in at 12 noon, on arrrival at 3ish, the room was still not ready and we would have to wait 30 mins.
    The good news
A free fooking upgrade to deluxe suite , oh yeah.

    pics to follow

Known about Vie for a while. Looks like a nice hotel. Good French restaurant if i am not mistaken. Stay in the area often as its right on the mrt. But Vie is a bit pricey for sleeper stops.

Will look forward to photos of the place.

Yes it's right next to the Ratchathewi BTS so quite handy for getting around though you still end up walking for miles just to get to places especially if your bloody clueless . I chose this hotel because I thought it was near to some snooker I had planned on watching whilst here, more on that later.

So I'd planned the trip to coincide with the Sangsom 6 red world snooker championship which is an invitation event (winner gets 80k pounds) pitting the best Thai players against some of the worlds top players including defending event champion and current world champion Mark Williams.By Thursday it was down to the knock out stages, so after a quick feed at a nearby cafe, a bit of a sleep and nice hot bath off we went searching for the Bangkok convention center Central Plaza.

    http://www.facebook.com/SangSom6RedSnooker

Of course there's 2 effin BCC central plazas in Bangkok and the one we wanted was the BCC Hall Central Plaza Lad Prao. So after wandering around Central World which is huge and asking numerous workers where the damn snooker was and getting puzzled looks finally one bloke told us we were in the wrong place .

    random wandering pics

for 12999999 baht you can pick up one of these

but I bought this for the Mrs instead

this mall was full of wine places

a wine tasting event - 1200 baht for 10 sips 2000 baht for unlimited sips with seafood and cheese available

We abandoned the snooker and after a good walk around finally ended up eating at a restaurant/bar next to the hotel called 73 bar. Food was perfectly acceptable and included Tom yam kung, chicken fried rice and Gai ped med mamuang washed down with some large Singhas.

    Short trip to Bangkok-44-jpg

This was about 23:00 and the place was pretty empty. The next night at 1:00 it was packed inside and out.

Settled down to listen to the band until lux interior appeared and a few ladyboy fans then it was time to collapse into bed.

breakfast was usual buffet of western and thai food with an egg chef and was excellent imo although the mrs was not impressed with the rice and spent the whole breakfast studying other guests to validate her opinion gleefully informing me that they too were also leaving their rice.Though the day she ever complains I'll eat my underpants.

The Hungry Nerd, I think. Cheap steaks and burgers, some pasta. Cold beer though.

There is a great little Sushi restaurant on the other side of the road. Cross over, go left (towards the bridge) and it is in a little mall (just before the 7/11). Can't remember the name, its on the ground floor. Worth a visit.
