    Koh Samet Pics

Here are my pics from Koh Samet. It was random spur of the moment thing. Me and missus just packed some bags and went to the bus station.

I booked a guesthouse on the main road not far from the pier. Expensive for Thailand. 1250baht a night for a basic loom.

Bus from Ekkamai 251 baht including return ferry ticket.

Had to pay 20 baht for the "pier maintenance".
Had to pay 200 baht for the island fee. Thai people pay less i believe.

The fire show at Ploy Talay was crap.

Ao Phrao is a nice beach for the sunset with lots of high end hotels and restaurants to visit. Sit on the beach with cocktails and enjoy the view before going for dinner at a nice hotel restaurant.

Ao Pai beach is a little bit south of the main 'Chinese' beach. It’s quiet(er). Not bad.

Ao Wai I very nice and quiet. Get a 50baht pp songthaew all the way down there. Not much in the way of restaurants and amenities. Take your own food and alcoholic refreshments: D

It was noodletastic on the bus. There was a full on buffet feast going on infront of me.. All kinds of grub being past between the aisle. They also left all their rubbish on their seats when we all got off. #cnts

After you've seen one, all fire shows are tiresomely predictable.

The performers manage to act enthusiatic, returning the drunken fist bumps of wankers attracted to such drivel.

But luckily those attracted to them are the types you'd avoid anyway.

Of all the Thai blokes who'd get to a shag a greasy farang backpacker bird, I'd say fire throwers have a top chance.

Still overcrowded with Russian and Chinese ?

Why did you pay the 200 stupid fee ? Very easy to avoid paying it by going on the left where the guard is, especially if you do not look like you just arrived...

And why 1250 thb bungalow not on the beach ? There is a lot better where to stay if you go to the far away beaches.

Nice pics and accompanying brief commentary, SP.
Maybe spread the photos out over several posts for ease of individual comments upon them?

There's no point if you're going in and out of that checkpoint all the time you'll get caught eventually.. I saw the "army" guys stopping people and demanding to see the ticket

They're actually national park rangers although they do look like the army, collared us as soon as we stepped of the speed boat onto the beach.
    A tad surreal, but TIT

Koh Samet is the only island around that has beaches almost as nice as Samui or Koh Phangan beaches.
Unfortunately Samet is permanently crowded as the south is during high season.
Koh Chang is more quiet during rainy season but no beach on Koh chang can be called a nice beach and can compare to Samet and Koh Phanghan.

Only time i have been fishing in Thailand was when we visited Koh Samet stayed at Tubtim over 10 years ago though. Was really nice then we spent a day with another couple on a fairly large boat fishing and snorkelling around the island well worth doing if you have some spare time.
Fascists dress in black and go around telling people what to do, whereas priests... more drink!

Koh Lipe has very beautiful beaches but unfortunately it's full of construction work everywhere, loads of trash heaps and its very expensive... Although i could be tempted to pop down there again in low season hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I have always written Koh Phangan off for obvious reasons

That's where I stayed in 2006. Loved it apart from the huge mozzies that descended between 4-6pm every evening,

Not the same dog Chitty. The tail fur is a different colour.

I suspect your dog choked to death on those fish bones you gave him shortly afterwards.

    Poor bastard

They have never done that before and I do not believe that they can force people to keep the ticket after having paid once.

I would never pay anything to these rats who overcharge foreigners.
