I like to think that this trip will be fuelled on regional moonshine and moo gob.

    Luck with it fellas

It wasn’t until we turned off the paved highway and onto a roughly graded dirt road that the reality of finishing our project began to set in. For more than a year and a half we had been following the Mekong and it had become something of a compulsion. It was no longer something we were consciously aware of but rather it seemed like an instinct, like something we had always done and would always do. But of course we would not always do this and in reality we were only two days from the journey’s end.

Despite the fact that we had been anticipating reaching the source of the Mekong for many months and were surrounded by some of the most beautifully barren landscape imaginable, it was difficult to feel truly excited. Actually it was difficult to feel much at all in the way of emotions; instead the endless bouncing of the 4x4 had numbed us to most feelings.

Rider's Corner in Chiang Mai has a nice map of the entire Mekong as well. If I remember correctly about 200 baht.

Some really great shots in this thread, I have to learn how to green.

Speaking of epic endurance rides, can anyone guess whose bike I had a go on a month or so back?

Apparently the record for cycling from Chiang Mai to Bangkok is 26 hours, and from Phuket to Bangkok is 29 hours. I reckon our intrepid TD cyclists could beat that, or should try to beat it.

Dont think we're gonna witness any racing here Nev, and they wont be breaking that record in July.be more a Brokeback mountain on 2 wheels i'd imagine

Joking aside, i dunno why tbh but i have Super Slap down as the superior athlete here and wonder how theyre gonna get on if they cycle at a
vastly differing pace.I remember as a kid fucking a bicycle pump at my brother and turning back home in tears when the cont would let me catch up only to sprint off all the time.

Its all about whose feeling the strongest on any particular day. Strongest takes the front and vice verde.

Anyway just back from phrao and its a great centuary ride. The first 20km are a bit shit but once you join the 1001 proper its a very scenic ride. Undulating road but still manage 1000 meters of climbing.
Great on a scooter or bicycle.not much in the town itself but the surroundings are superb.
