Bhumbibol Dam to Mae Sot road trip

Wife and I decided to do a day trek to the dam and then Mae Sot

The dam was the Thai equivalent to Hoover...sort of. As I was hanging over the edge I saw HUGE fish feeding on the surface....Pissed I didn't bring my rod and reel.

Its well worth a follow up trip where we rent a long boat for the day where I can drop a line in the water while the wife reads. The temp today was 17c. Simply outstanding

Then we headed off to Mae Sot....HOLY SHIT. WIll they ever finish that road project? I felt like I was driving my Chevy S10 Baja truck through the Mexican desert. Road was a mine field and dusty. Wife just sat and said "I drive like a mad man". I just said....."Man this is some fun shit". My Truck is a mess now. Mud, Cement, Dust....Tomorrow is wash day and air cleaner service...LOL

Anyway went to down to the market and picked up some GIGANTIC Shrimp and some crab. Wife made the guy did through just about all of them picking the best 10 out for a BBQ we are planning tomorrow night. We packed them in the cooler and off we went.

We stopped off at this restaurant for some grub then headed back. The food was excellent and reasonable

All in all a good day. Honestly not much to do around Mae Sot and the border. I had been there before and it was the same.

Nice.

But what you want to do is Mae Sot up to Mae Sariang.

Then round to Pai, stopping at Tham Lod.

Nice I was at the dam back in January and it was pretty low on water. I bought a few of those bags of food for the fish it had to drop down about 100'. Looks like some big ones where in there.

Never been to Bhumibol Dam. Now thinking of going end of next month when the SIL arrives. She’s not been to Tak. I’m always interested in the orchid shops down there.

The restaurant looks interesting also. It was in Tak?

Tak and Mae Hong Son Provinces have some real hidden gems as it applies to those who procure and nurture local/Burmese orchids [specific nurseries], Kitty.
Uncommon and rarer varieties can be found if one asks around.

Yes there is a National Forest and lots of other really cool places to visit. The weather up North right now is simply beautiful. 15c at night, 24 during day. At our house we always have a nice breeze basically year round.

Some of the Thai engineers involved in the planning of the Bhumibol Dam had spent few years in Boulder City, Nevada, learning the job.
