An hour later we are hurtling along at supersonic speed on a speed boat captained by a Yaba enfused maniac from the port of Ban Phe, reminiscent from a scene from Dunkirk we landed.
Bottle of Chang in hand and the other clutching my jaw , one was quickly approached by a Royal Thai Army soldier fully armed with a ticket book and bulging wallet.
I handed over the 240 baht entrance fee to the national park of Koh Samet after forking out for the 2000baht white knuckle ride across sea.
The beautiful white sanded island has been invaded by thousands of strange Chinese whos sole aim on holiday is to take as many selfies as possible.
We headed quickly away from the maddening crowds to a pristine paradise where are only company is the surf, sea, sand, sun and dogs..

The first pic of Koh Samet Island with a couple of Katoeys on a giant pink inflatable flamingo photo bombing my pic..

While the rest of Thailand is being hit by the Monsoon and floods, Koh samet remains strangely sunny with the odd bit of cloud, in fact the sun followed us around our whole trip and we didn't experience any of the tropical rains we'd been hearing about..

Amazing what this isle of dogs will do for a bone..

A dodgy chicken and sticky rice beach seller..

A deserted resort, now a hippy comume with free deck chairs and indoctrination..

Time to get on the sauce, what's a grown Chinese man with arm bands on doing paddling knee high photo bombing my pic?

    Nice toilet..

This old tug with a slide on the back looks like fun..

    Full Koh Samet trip here..

Time to head oop North on this over night bus, will save on the hotel bill..

Rayong to Lomsak, 8 hours! Cost about 300 baht each with a free drink and packet of cheesy biscuits thrown in..

Time to neck half a bottle of Hong Thong and crash out, hopefully not literally. Although i did see a few fatal car crashes en route to the north...

We arrived oop north in the sleepy town of lomsak and proceeded to hire the entire fleet of Somchais cut and shut hybrid tuk tuks to transport us the 500m to our hotel for the week, i twas like a scene from Wacky Races..

Only customers in the hotel and 1600 baht for a family double suite with breakfast

A quick Chang and change into our swimming costumes and the cool off beckons..

    Lets av itttt!!!!

Cow Pat Guy for lunch 40 baht, nice pool side cafe...

WTF! Trip out, this is similar to putting up a sign on a quite Manchester road stating Madrid is 2000km away

Time for a walk about town..

    Random Gecko shot..

One of my fav Thai shots, considering my phone camera is shit this pic came out quite well..

Big police station and paddy wagon for a small town ...

Must be all the careful drivers..

No danger of these chaps speeding, any slower and they'll stop..

Carn't see this bad boy getting off the starting grid any time soon..

    Random Tamarind shop..

good job there's no rain here, otherwise the "farang motor bike night market" will have no electric..

A few pets for sale pics from the night market..

This size of a Bobcat and completely pissed off.

    All about 100 baht each..

Didn't have the heart to tell the seller of these two puppies that they were not sleeping and actually dead..

Fair play to the manager, he was a Liverpool fan.

Some reasonable priced properties up here..

Now to buy the return ticket to Mochit after mothers day, busy time of the year and my Thai isn't helping so lets draw a picture..

Cheap as chips, travelling on the bus here..

Lets see what "Interesting" herbal stuff i can find in here..

An old British telephone box, they do crop up in the weirdest of places around the globe..

    Puppy anyone?

Cheers for the free taste of this exotic fruit...

I do believe Durian is a bigger problem in these parts than Yaba..

A mint vintage VW estate outside the local Wat..

    The trusty pick up..

    Last nights empties ...

    Hhmm..

    Cashing the mornings takings..

    Fresh cat fish for dinner..

    After a light lunch..

Multi tasking, a child on the front and one on the back holding a sun shade for protection from the perilous u-turn.

Random chocolate river and weird tree pic..

Me in 10 years time, best start collecting those cool stickers..

Back to the town centre in time for the " farang drive by market"...

No visa, off grid, living and working as a Thai for 12 years..

His fish and chips was respectable for 100 baht.

    Old Siam culture..

The old dear in the herbal shop was using this massive guillotine, would have loved to have found out the identities and uses of the herbs...

Didn't want to push my luck with her asking to many questions as her cutting actions were becoming more aggressive.

An interesting and off the beaten track trip Chitty. Not sure I'd have the patience or tolerance to do it as a family group. I have enough trouble just keeping me happy when traveling .
    Thanks for sharing.

There's not much choice up north.

However, it does make up for it in charm and culture.

Maybe you should get off the beaten track and out of your comfort zone in your next trip, ones baht will go a lot further for a singleton two week millionaire

Land Rover club of Thailand going strong in these parts..

Fully loaded and ready for the floods..

Hideous freak of a car! Jaguar copy at the front and Nissan Micra at the rear..

You can never have enough pink plastic chairs stuck on the back of a truck..

Fancy street lighting, not sure about that evil looking bird..

No wonder there's so many power cuts..

Someones tuned in to national pastime..

    Quite night in tonight..

Great set of pictures. This reminds me of the annual road trips we do with the wife's family. Its nice to get out and see other parts of the country. I always find it interesting to see a solo westerner with a stall set up in those off the beaten track areas. I guess the locals are cool with it and it gives him something to do.

Three days left and it's time to catch the bus back to Bangkok, heavy traffic predicted because it was the Monday after Mothers day.

The MIL was crying like a baby as we headed off, wondering no doubt when she will see us all again.

The bus stewardess was wearing a worrying face mask...

Lovely hotel on the river in Banglamphu.
A short walk to the Koh San Road area and next to the ferry pier..

Nice spot for a cold one before a dip in the pool..

A constant stream of barges being towed along the river..

Four tug boats at the front and two at the back to keep the heavy barges on the straight and narrow.

    The long tail boat..

Check out the yellow Koh Tao bracelets on the girls, these made it back safe.

Don't mind the eldest, he's camera shy

Not only is this bike electric, it comes with child seats front and rear..

    Random street seller shot..

The worst toilet in Thailand by far, there was even a dog asleep under the u bend..

The owner of the toilet and bar were a weird bunch.
They styled themselves on the Brazilian Flavela gangs covered in face tattoos and bragging about how much his "Put" cost..

"Half Pit Bull, half Pug1 Cost big money! 50,000baht"
The bar was called addy thug bar

Think he would have spent 500 baht on paint for the toilet.

Most of the bars/restaurants around the area seemed reasonable from the outside but they all had one thing in common, the toilets were proper shithouses.

    Not more potato heads..

Great pics Chitty. I enjoy random day to day pics. They are the best. Just another day in life as you traveled around. Albeit I never take pics of toilets.
